To be clear- the main issue with the White House working with Alejandro Betancourt isn't a moral one. Transitions to democracy certainly require concessions and letting criminals go free. Venezuelans undertand that. Most of us understand the US has no choice but to work with Delcy Rodriguez, Diosdado Cabello and Jorge Rodriguez, for example.
The actual issue here is this is terrible business and not likely to lead to economic recovery. This is the same man who's partly responsible of the destruction of the electricity and oil industries in Venezuela. He has been probed for laundering BILLIONS from these industries, which are now destroyed to the point of needing complete reconstruction. So what exactly makes him a necessary evil? Why is the man behind the collapse in charge of the reconstruction?

It was terrible when Ronaldo’s red card was suspended so he could play in the tournament and it’s bad now. What’s the point of giving red cards then when FIFA can be pressured to wipe them away when it benefits them?

Man, it’s hard to believe in this sport when open corruption like this is happening. You can say the red card is soft or that others should have gotten cards for similar fouls but suspending a punishment because FIFA got a call is distasteful.
