In NEET-PG 2025, candidates with scores as low as –40 out of 800 were allowed to participate in PG counselling. A negative score was considered qualifying.
These extremely low scores, at which seats were actually allotted, indicate a serious crisis in academic standards. A reasonable minimum qualifying merit must be established to maintain the integrity of medical education and the healthcare system.
Forget about dialogue or discussion. So far, neither the Government nor the Opposition has said a word about this because it does not suit their agenda, and it would affect their vote banks and political interests.
Even those who are protesting today in the name of concerns about the education system are not addressing this issue because they too have political ambitions and know that speaking about it could cost them support rather than gain it.
PM @narendramodi Sir This is a major source of grievance by students. A GC with 90%+ does not get a seat but some others in categories with very low marks get in! This is very wrong a 10% lower marks is ok but not so low. This is creating huge anger amongst students who work very hard for years to qualify. Needs a solution.

In 1930, the dark, cavernous inner sanctum of the Brihadeeshwara Temple in Thanjavur holds a massive secret. For nearly a 1000 yrs, a series of exquisite, large-scale murals painted during the height of the Chola Empire had been completely lost to history. They were buried under a thick, crude layer of 17th century Nayak era paint & centuries of black soot from oil lamps.
When historians finally discovered the hidden Chola paintings beneath the top layer, the ASI faced a terrifying technical nightmare: How do you peel away a 300 yr old layer of paint to reveal a 1000 yr old masterpiece beneath it, w/o destroying either one?
Traditional archaeologists were completely out of their depth. They tried scraping it, but the ancient plaster crumbled into dust. They needed a scientist. Specifically, they needed a young man named Srinivasan Paramasivan, who had just been hired as a mid level chemical assistant at the Government Museum in Madras.
Paramasivan did not treat ancient art as a matter of aesthetics; he treated it as a problem of pure chemistry, material science & geology. Working inside a tiny, damp lab at the Madras Museum with next to no budget, he realized that to save the paintings, he had to reverse engineer exactly how the ancient masters created them.
He pioneered a highly meticulous method of micro-chemical analysis. He chipped off microscopic flakes of the plaster, smaller than a grain of sand & subjected them to rigorous tests to analyze the binding media, the moisture content & the chemical composition of the pigments.
His findings completely rewrote the history of Indian art. He proved that unlike the secco technique (painting on dry plaster) common in later Indian periods, the Chola masters used the incredibly difficult true fresco (fresco buono) technique. They painted directly onto wet, freshly laid lime plaster, causing the pigment particles to chemically fuse inside the limestone as it dried.
Armed with this chemical truth, Paramasivan designed a delicate, specialized solvent mixture. He carefully brushed it onto the top Nayak layer, softening it just enough so it could be mechanically separated & rolled back like a sticker, exposing the pristine, brilliant 1000 yr old Chola colors underneath. It was the 1st time in global archaeology that a dual layer of ancient frescoes had been successfully separated w/o losing the art.
Paramasivan's next massive, hidden triumph involved India's iconic Chola Bronzes. By the late 1930s, ancient bronze statues of Nataraja & other deities stored in museums & temples across South India were actively dying. They were covered in a bright green, flaky crust known to curators as "Bronze Disease."
This is not ordinary rust. It is a highly destructive electrochemical reaction that occurs when buried copper alloys come into contact with chlorides & moisture. Left unchecked, the metal literally eats itself from the inside out, turning priceless, intricate sculptures into piles of green powder.
Western museums solved this by scraping the statues down/using aggressive acid baths, which stripped away the beautiful, historic "patina" (the dark, protective skin the metal naturally develops over centuries). Paramasivan flatly refused to deface the statues. Instead, he pioneered an incredibly elegant electrolytic restoration method.
He submerged the fragile, corroded bronze deities into a customized chemical solution, wrapped them in a gentle wire mesh & ran a highly controlled, very low-voltage electrical current through the bath for weeks at a time. The electrical current reversed the chemical oxidation process, forcing the destructive chloride ions to detach from the statue & migrate toward the wire mesh.
When the statues emerged from his bath, the destructive disease was completely eradicated, but the gorgeous, original, dark historic patina remained perfectly intact. He had saved the soul of the bronze using basic electrochemistry.
Paramasivan eventually rose to become the Archaeological Chemist of the ASI, publishing his groundbreaking research in elite global journals like Nature & Technical Studies in the Field of the Fine Arts.
Yet, to his neighbors & his domestic circle, he never looked like a pioneer. He lived a fiercely disciplined, intensely quiet life, rarely boasting about his international publications.
Long before modern universities offered degrees in "Archaeological Science," a quiet man in a modest house in Madras was using electrochemistry, geology & physics to rescue India's greatest artistic legacies from turning into dust.
While the whole country is debating petrol-ethanol, the bros from Madhya Pradesh have already pulled off what is arguably India's first major ethanol scam, not counting you know who.
There is a govt policy that surplus rice in govt warehouses can be sold to ethanol manufacturers at subsidised rates to prevent it from rotting.
According to a Dainik Bhaskar report, the scam began when some officials allegedly (willingly?) ignored the rules and allocated "newly procured" fortified rice (not even regular rice, but fortified rice) for ethanol production. The rice, bought at a high price (₹4,000 per quintal), was sold at a throwaway price (₹2,320 per quintal) to ethanol plants.
The ethanol plant operators allegedly knew it was fortified rice, so instead of using it to make ethanol, they sold it to rice millers at ₹2,800 per quintal, and instead bought cheap broken rice (₹2,100 per quintal) from the open market for ethanol production, making an overall profit of ₹700 per quintal.
The rice millers allegedly repacked the fortified rice in new gunny bags and supplied it back to the govt as freshly milled rice. The govt paid them milling charges, while the govt supplied paddy they were actually supposed to mill was allegedly sold in the open market for another round of profit.
So the same bag of rice allegedly kept changing hands: govt warehouse to ethanol plant to rice mill to back to govt warehouse. Everyone in the chain allegedly made money.
The MP govt formed an SIT. So far, four people have been arrested and 12 trucks seized. Investigators suspect that up to 50 lakh quintals of govt rice, worth around ₹1,160 crore, may have been diverted through this alleged racket.

What Are Jamun Fruits Trying to Tell Us?
This year, I am seeing more jamun (Indian blackberry) fruits in the markets than I have ever seen in the last thirty years.
The fruits are literally raining down from the trees. Even trees that bore only a few fruits last year are heavily laden this season. Trees that usually produce well are dropping an even more abundant harvest.
Why is this happening?
My grandmother used to say:
“If jamun trees shed unusually large quantities of fruit during summer, there is a higher chance of drought that year.”

Nah... that is not even the best part. Here is the real FUN FACT:
In the Aryabhatiya (Ganitapada, Verse 21), written in 499 CE, Aryabhata introduces the mathematics of stacking. He explicitly lays out the formula for finding the total number of items in a pyramid pile with a triangular/square base. For a pyramid stack where each side of the base has 'n' spheres:
Total Spheres = [ n × (n + 1) × (n + 2) ] / 6
Think about the timeline here. Johannes Kepler conjectured that this layout was the densest in 1611. Aryabhata had already mapped out the exact algebraic discrete-volume matrix to count every single individual sphere within that dense packing formation 1000s yrs earlier.
Fun Fact is still not over. Fast-forward to the 12th century. The legendary mathematician Bhaskara II takes Aryabhata’s foundation & elevates it into a poetic, highly advanced art form in his textbook, the Lilavati. Bhaskara creates a dedicated mathematical category called Citi-Ghana (the volume of a pile). He did not just give 1 formula; he realized that different stacking bases create different geometric properties. He breaks down eqns for:
- Triangular-based pyramids (where spheres rest in the gaps of a triangular grid)
- Square-based pyramids (the standard grocery-stack style)
- Oblong piles (where the base is a rectangle)
To solve these, Bhaskara had to utilize Varga-Sankalita (the sum of squares of natural numbers) & Ghana-Sankalita (the sum of cubes). While Western mathematics at the time was struggling with basic arithmetic using Roman numerals, Indian scholars were utilizing advanced series expansions to handle the discrete boundaries of 3 dimensional sphere packing.

It is incredibly frustrating to watch celebrity chefs & pop-history influencers look directly into a camera & confidently state, "Did you know our favorite South Indian staple, the Idli, actually came from Indonesia?" This entire narrative is a colossal house of cards. It is a classic case of academic confirmation bias that transformed into viral disinformation.
When an entire nation is taught to believe that they could not even figure out how to steam w/o foreign intervention, we have to look at the raw data to puncture the bubble.
Almost every single article/tweet/celebrity chef video claiming that the idli is Indonesian can be traced back to exactly 1 source: a single speculative paragraph written by the late food historian K.T. Achaya in his 1994 book, Indian Food: A Historical Companion. Achaya theorized that between 800-1200 CE, Indonesian kings traveling to India brought royal chefs who introduced a fermented, steamed dish called "Kedli."
Yrs after this book was published, investigative food journalists (such as Janaki Lenin) & linguistic researchers actually went to Indonesia to look for this legendary precursor. The word "Kedli" does not exist in any Indonesian language/dialect/historical dictionary. There is no historical record/recipe/anthropological trace of an ancient Indonesian dish called "Kedli." Achaya completely misread/manufactured the term based on a loose phonetic guess, yet it became an accepted "fact" because no 1 bothered to check the data.
The claim that India did not have idlis until the 12th century is thoroughly obliterated by our own ancient libraries. The evolution of the idli is meticulously recorded in indigenous Indian encyclopedias & literature centuries before Achaya’s timeline:
- 920 CE (Vaddaradhane): A classical Kannada text by the Jain monk Shivakotiacharya explicitly details a dish called Iddalige. It was a staple food item offered to Jain ascetics. - 1025 CE (Lokopakara): The earliest available Kannada encyclopedia, written by Chavundaraya II, gives a literal recipe for it: soaking split black gram (Urad Dal) in buttermilk, grinding it into a fine paste, mixing it with spices & the clear water of curd.
- 1130 CE (Manasollasa): The Western Chalukya King Someshvara III wrote a monumental Sanskrit encyclopedia detailing royal cuisine. He explicitly gives the recipe for Iddarikā describing how the urad dal cakes are prepared & cooked.
When skeptics are confronted with these ancient texts, they quickly shift the goalposts. They argue: Okay, fine, India had Iddalige, but it was just made of Urad Dal. It did not use rice/long fermentation/steaming... those techniques came from Indonesia! This is textually & technologically false.
Critics often cite the 7th-century Chinese traveler Xuanzang, who claimed India did not use steaming vessels. But we do not need a specialized metallic Chinese steam-cooker to steam food. For millennia, Indians practiced Kopotapaka & basket-steaming, tying a thin muslin cloth over a standard clay pot (Kunda) filled with boiling water, placing the batter on top & covering it with a lid. In fact, the Kanchipuram Idli is still steamed in traditional bamboo baskets lined with Mandhara leaves.
To say India did not understand fermentation until the 12th century is a historical joke. India is the cradle of complex biomaterial fermentation. The Rigveda & Ayurvedic Samhitas from 1000s of yrs ago are packed with advanced formulas for fermenting grains, herbs & dairy to create Asavas, Arishtas, Kanji & Dahi (Curd). The natural wild bacteria (Leuconostoc mesenteroides) required to leaven idli batter live natively on the husks of black gram found right here in the subcontinent.
Why do celebrity chefs keep repeating this lie? Because of a deeply ingrained post-colonial inferiority complex that dominates modern food media. There is a structural bias that assumes any advanced, scientific culinary technique, like molecular leavening/pasteurization/specialized steaming must have been imported to India from somewhere else. It sounds edgy, counter-intuitive & intellectual for a chef to tell an Indian audience that their national breakfast is not actually theirs.
The idli is a native, organic, ground-up evolutionary masterpiece of South Indian kitchen science. It evolved naturally from the lentil-based Iddalige of the 9th century into the perfectly balanced rice & lentil fluffy wonder we eat today. The next time a chef tries to tell you the idli is from Indonesia, ask them to show you the recipe for "Kedli." Watch how fast they fold.
This is the condition of the Punjab mansion of Hindu businessman Todar Mal who paid 7,800 gold coins and bought 4 yards of land from the Mughal emperor Aurangzeb to bury the bodies of the 2 young sons and mother of Guru Gobind Singh on December 13, 1705.
The Mughal faujdar Wazir Khan had ordered the two young children be bricked alive as they refused to accept Islam. When they died, their grandmother died of shock
The Mughals did not want to allow the cremation to humiliate the martyrs. They stipulated that the buyer can take only as much space as he could cover with give gold coins for the land. All the Sikh chiefs just stood helplessly
That's when Todar Mal produced the coins and bought the piece of land, and cremated the three bodies.
This is biggest irony of life, India is only country where its true heritage is hidden from next generation and falsehood Is taught.
The hotel that burnt in Delhi had permission for 6 rooms.
They built 25.
They needed NOCs from the fire department and probably the municipality to operate.
They didn't have it.
They were supposed to have a fire escape and an evacuation plan
They didn't.
Every building should be built in such a way that they should give free access to the fire brigade
They didn't.
On the above violations alone, they should have been shut down.
Yet, not only where they operating, they were literally flourishing.
Today 21 people died brutal deaths, including an entire family of 8, because the govt servants that were supposed to ensure stuff like this doesn't happen, took money and looked the other way.
21 innocent people, some of them medical patients, were burnt to death, because a group of people who were supposed to do their job, didn't do it.
21 people looking forward to their lives, were terminated, because a group of rapacious govt servants decided that bribe money was more important than people's lives.
Because for the govt, the value of a life lost due to government negligence, is worth Rs 2 Lakhs in Ex-Gratia.
The bribe amount of looking the other way, is many times that.
And the sad part is, every member involved in the heinous act of allowing this hotel to run and burn, will keep their jobs, get their salary, get the dues that the 8th Pay Commission will inevitable shower on them get promotions where they will take more bribes and kill more people and then retire into a glorious sunset with index linked pensions.
And the guy who ran this hotel. Nothing will happen to him.
He will blame some underling, get a new GST no in his wife's name and then run 14 other hotels like this.
P:S: The Delhi CM has ordered a "Magisterial" enquiry. What's the point of it all, when the so called "Magistrate" might also be the part of this food chain.
