Tulunad Tannalmè dino - Shared history of Kodavas and Tuluvas

commemorated on April 5th.
On this day local freedom fighters rose up against British rule in 1837.
This was one of the earliest armed revolt against British even predating the first war of Indian Independence in 1857 by two decades.
Locals seized Mangalore from British and hoisted the native flag at Bavutaguddè hill, they overthrew British administration for brief period and declared independence of Tulunad.

This revolt has started in Amara Sullia and spread across Tulunad, Local leaders from Kodavu and Tulunad were at the uprising. This rebellion is also known as Amara Sullia Rebellion or Coorg rebellion.
