3. The football giant (not poor little global south underdog), reigning champion, best-player-of-all-time-haver, and one of the tournament favourites has a football culture well-known to be chauvinistic and violent, and it almost certainly was the beneficiary of favourable officiating based on the statistics alone. If you don’t know this you don’t know anything about football.

4. The reasons for the officiating bias might be quite banal not some grand conspiracy.

5. Every narrative that strays too far beyond this is some absurd form of projection that shows the outsized influence of amplified social media dreck and how every single topic under the sun becomes a reservoir for broader political discontents, however tenuously related.
