I saw a couple at a restaurant yesterday, and the mom asked her husband to hold the baby so she could finally eat her food.
She took exactly three bites.
Just three.
The baby started fussing, and the husband immediately handed the child right back to her, laughed, and said to the waiter,
“I guess she just likes her mom more. Must be nice to be the favorite.”
The waiter smiled and walked away.
The mom just looked down at her cold plate.
But it made my stomach turn because for the last hour before that food even arrived, she had been:
rocking the stroller,
digging through the diaper bag for toys,
wiping up a spilled drink,
soothing a teething infant,
managing the entire family's nervous system...
while the husband sat there sipping his beer and staring at the TV above the bar.
And honestly, I think that’s why so many wives are completely checked out.
Not because they mind taking care of their kids.
But because they are carrying the entire weight of the family while someone else treats it like a hobby they can just opt out of.
When you are mentally disturbed, you don't always act kind, you get irritated easily. Your patience started to fade. You speak rudely sometimes, not because you want to, but because your heart is tired of holding too much. You push people away, and they call it bad behaviour. they see anger, but only you know the truth. It's not anger, it's mental exhaustion. a mind crowded with unsaid words slowly turning into sadness. Emotions become too heavy to carry, too painful to explain, and all you're doing is trying to survive the noise inside.
