One of the most powerful ways to grow in Cybersecurity is through community. Make it a priority to be part of at least one Cybersecurity community.
It gives you the opportunity to learn, share knowledge, and grow alongside like-minded individuals ✨
Most people think tools like WinRAR simply “shrink files.”
In reality, what they do is much more interesting.
When you compress a file, the software isn’t randomly reducing its size. Instead, it studies the data and looks for patterns and repetition.
Most digital files contain a surprising amount of repeated information. For example, imagine a file that contains the sequence:
AAAAAAAABBBBBBBB
Instead of storing every single letter, the compressor can store something more efficient like “8A 8B”. When the file is extracted later, the program reads those instructions and rebuilds the original data exactly as it was. This is called lossless compression, meaning nothing is lost in the process.
To do this, WinRAR relies on techniques from algorithms such as LZ77, which use what’s known as a dictionary. As the software reads a file, it remembers pieces of data it has already seen. If the same sequence appears again later, instead of writing the data again, it simply writes an instruction telling the system to repeat the earlier data.
After removing those repetitions, the data is compressed even further using statistical encoding methods such as Huffman coding. These techniques assign shorter binary codes to frequently occurring data and longer codes to rare ones, squeezing the file size down even more.
One of the reasons the RAR format often compresses files better than ZIP is something called solid compression. Rather than compressing each file individually, RAR can treat multiple files as one continuous stream of data. If those files share similarities—like log files, documents, or source code—the compressor can reuse patterns across all of them, resulting in significantly smaller archives.
By comparison, most ZIP archives rely on the DEFLATE algorithm, which is very fast but generally less sophisticated. That’s why ZIP files are usually created faster, while RAR files often end up smaller and more efficient.
When you extract an archive, the process simply runs in reverse. The software reads the stored instructions, rebuilds the patterns, and reconstructs the original files bit-for-bit exactly as they were before compression.
So when you see a massive folder shrink into a tiny archive, it isn’t magic. It’s software carefully identifying patterns, eliminating redundancy, and storing only the instructions needed to rebuild the original data later.

One of the biggest challenges in self-learning today isn’t lack of content—it’s lack of structure and direction. MOOCs are often rigid, while YouTube is powerful but unstructured.
Cleeroute sits right in the middle: personalized roadmaps, high-quality free content...
Cleeroute (@cleeroute ) is an AI-powered learning platform that replaces rigid MOOCs with dynamic, personalized roadmaps.
Users enter a learning goal (e.g., "Master Microsoft Excel" or "Motion Design with Adobe After Effects"). The AI constructs a syllabus based on their experience level and learning objectives.
The platform then aggregates high-quality, free content (primarily YouTube), organizes it into structured modules, and overlays an active learning layer:
- A context-aware tutor that answers questions based on a video, section and the whole course,
- AI-generated quizzes
- Note taking
- Grounding with sources (Transcripts, PDFs, text, web links)
🎉Today marks 5 years since I joined @chesscom ♟️
I discovered it while researching chess — back when I was totally obsessed!
Since then, this platform has helped me improve my game, entertained me countless times, and kept my love for chess alive. ❤️ #Chess#Anniversary
First time using the @Kali Purple OS. After some days, I was about to give up on it because the Night Light functionality wasn’t working — but thanks to Redshift, I decided to stick with it.
But then… I don’t know why there isn’t Burp Suite by default in this OS. 🤔
