As part of my official visit to Italy, I was pleased to meet with the Minister of Culture, Alessandro Giuli.

I am grateful for Italy’s consistent support to @UNESCO and for its role as a longstanding partner in our emergency response efforts.

Italy’s commitment to UNESCO’s mandate is reflected in its remarkable network across heritage, culture, education, science and research — and in its strong engagement in protecting our shared cultural and natural heritage.

I look forward to further strengthening our cooperation with Italy across UNESCO’s mandate, #ForThePeople and for future generations.

In Rome, I had the honour of meeting with the President of the Italian Republic, Sergio Mattarella.

I expressed my deep gratitude for the warm welcome and for Italy’s leading role within @UNESCO and for its longstanding commitment to multilateral cooperation, dialogue and peace.

Italy’s engagement is reflected across UNESCO’s mandate — from the protection of cultural heritage, including in emergency situations, to science, education and culture. It is also reflected in Italy’s remarkable UNESCO network: from World Heritage sites and Creative Cities to UNESCO Chairs, schools, science institutions and the Regional Office in Venice.

This official visit to Italy is an opportunity to explore new avenues for cooperation — with the Government, regions, cities, universities, schools, local communities and the private sector.

Together, we can further mobilize UNESCO’s unique assets to strengthen our impact, for the people and for future generations.

At a time of heightened geopolitical tensions and multiple crises, more than 160 countries gathered in Barcelona for #MONDIACULT2025, @UNESCO's largest World Conference on Cultural Policies, organized in partnership with Spain.

This edition confirms a strong ambition: to place #culture at the heart of development and crisis response policies, while ensuring sustainable funding for it.

Countries have scheduled their next edition of MONDIACULT for 2029, which will be hosted by Saudi Arabia.
