The creator and administrator of the Ransom Cartel ransomware group received a 16-year federal prison sentence.

From 2021 to 2023, Belarusian national Maksim Silnikau and his Ransom Cartel conspirators launched ransomware attacks on at least 18 companies around the world, including companies based in California, New York, and Nebraska.

After his arrest, Silnikau was extradited from Poland to face prosecution in the United States. By leveraging its global investigative reach and international partnerships, the @FBI will continue to pursue ransomware actors and dismantle their infrastructure.

On July 16, 2026, #FBIDallas along with German Federal Criminal Police (BKA) and Frankfurt Public Prosecutor's Office for Combating Internet Crime (ZIT) conducted a joint takedown of the central infrastructure for one of the world's most widespread phishing-as-a-service (PhaaS) kits called Kratos. Operation Olympus Blade took more than 200 Kratos servers offline and seized domains associated with their phishing service.

This action was part of Operation Riptide, an FBI campaign targeting the criminal actors, infrastructure, and financial networks behind cybercrime, cyber-enabled crime, and fraud against the American people. Last year, Americans reported over $20 billion in losses to cybercrime, a 26 percent single-year increase. Operation Riptide is the FBI's sustained enforcement response to that threat.

Canadian national Connor Moucka pleaded guilty today to a widespread computer hacking conspiracy that resulted in the compromise of over 165 organizations, the theft of billions of sensitive customer records, and the extortion of many victims.

Moucka was arrested just months after he began targeting American companies and extorting victims for millions of dollars. @FBISeattle investigated the case. Alongside international partners, the #FBI will continue to track down cybercriminals and hold them accountable, wherever they operate.
