Imagine having a hard time passing an inexcusably gerrymandered map because a few alders believe residents should be fairly represented and thinking the problem is that it wasn’t EASY enough to screw over your constituents. @AldermanHarris and the council showing truly no shame
Alders like Michelle Harris are trying to reduce the number of alders it will take to approve future ward maps from being passed to 26. If successful, residents will not be able to vote on how their wards are shaped & it will be easier for politicians to carve up our communities.

Why did Chicago City Council just redraw its ward boundaries, & why did it take so long? At 6 p.m. Wednesday, Chicago Project Manager @Chaundra_ will be at the @hideoutchicago to help answer these and other questions about the new ward map. Register here: https://t.co/0TvnXwimOR.
We’re seeing a distinct pattern in which people in communities that speak up against the elected officials that are carving them up are being punished in these #BackroomDeals. Wards 6, 15, 16, 17, and 20 are still split up and included in the Englewood neighborhood.
“For the third year in a row, Chicago is America’s most corrupt city, and Illinois is the third-most corrupt state, according to an annual report from the University of Illinois at Chicago.” @WTTW breaks down the analysis by former Ald. Dick Simpson.

Chicago, is basically, a grid city. A supermajority of the wards, should be squares or rectangles. No weird shapes.
Start on the far southeast side, and go north from there.

"Having gone through this process, I think the need for change is evident more than ever, and hope that we do move our city to an independent commission before we have to do it again in 2032"
The 2022 2nd Ward Chicago could be in Mr. Rogers Neighborhood. Can you say "gerrymandering"? Sure, I knew you could. Will you be my friend in my gerrymandered neighborhood? @AldermanHopkins.

The @chicagotribune agrees with us — machine gerrymandering MUST end. We are calling on alders to work with Springfield on legislation that would put ward maps in the hands of residents through an independent commission, modeled by @chicagoswards.

I agree the Chicago 36th ward districting is terrible and undemocratic, but my first thought isn’t pool noodle. District shape comparisons have only gone down hill since the salamander.
