On June 24, 1972, a pre-recorded performance of T. Rex’s “Metal Guru” (filmed on May 10, 1972 for BBC Top of the Pops) was broadcast on Disco 72. Marc Bolan is seen wearing a striking blue flower design jacket from the London boutique Alkasura

CONTEXT AND NOTES
This broadcast came during the height of T. Rextasy. “Metal Guru” was one of T. Rex’s biggest singles, showcasing their glam rock sound and Bolan’s flamboyant style. The Alkasura jacket is a classic example of the glam fashion Bolan favored in 1972. Alkasura was a key King’s Road boutique alongside Granny Takes a Trip, supplying many of the era’s most iconic rock star outfits.

Millwall Football Club is extremely saddened to announce the passing of former manager Kenny Jackett at the age of 64.

Kenny managed over 300 games during his time with the club, leading The Lions to promotion from League One and to an FA Cup Semi-Final.

Rest in peace, Kenny.

THE STORY
Produced by Tony Visconti, “The Groover” delivered T. Rex’s signature blend of boogie rock, catchy hooks, and Marc Bolan’s playful vocals. The B-side “Midnight” offered a slightly moodier, atmospheric contrast. The single was released in both standard UK pressings and Dutch export copies (distinguished by “Made in Holland” on the labels) to meet high demand. It became another solid hit for the band during their classic glam era

CONTEXT AND NOTES
“The Groover” peaked at No. 4 on the UK Official Singles Chart in June 1973 and spent 9 weeks on the chart. This release came during a busy and successful period for T. Rex, following their massive early 1970s hits.
