This man, he should be at least 10 years older than I am, enters my DM, soliciting for funds. I had a lot on my hand at the time so I couldn’t open the message to respond. Then he goes on to call repeatedly, more than five times.
Sensing the urgency, I quickly picked the call. He was in serious financial distress and needed my assistance. He swore he was going to return the money in the evening that same day.
Prior to this time, we hadn’t spoken since we left school, about 4 years ago. But then, I could testify to his character, or so I thought. A first-class graduate, a pious man who always professed to love God and never hid it.
A few minutes after I transferred the amount he sought for, he called again, asking for more, swearing for the second time that he would return it in the evening of the same day.
“The country is hard”, I said in my mind, and that this person was quite a responsible man. So I pressed the second transfer.
After some days, I didn’t hear from this man. Out of concern for his wellbeing, I sent a message inquiring as to his situation. He was lamenting about how life had been dealing with him, and how marriage had come with its own burden and said something about single men like me not being able to relate to his struggles. Then, he apologized for not reaching out, and made a promise to send the money by the end of the month, and brazenly asked that I send him more money. At this point, I was miffed. But remained calm.
The month ended, I sent a text. Got no replies.
Then I realized he hadn’t been updating WhatsApp status like he did regularly in the past. Again, out of concern for his wellbeing, I called him, he did not pick and didn’t care to return the call.
Then days later, he was back updating on his status, posting his wife and kid, shamelessly.
At this point, I became convinced he was fine. So I muted, and went about my day.
It’s been months now.
This, ladies and gentlemen, is how relationships are destroyed.
A Few Final Thoughts
by Warren Buffett
One perhaps self-serving observation. I'm happy to say I feel better about the second half of my life than the first. My advice: Don't beat yourself up over past mistakes - learn at least a little from them and move on. It is never too late to improve. Get the right heroes and copy them. You can start with Tom Murphy; he was the best.
Remember Alfred Nobel, later of Nobel Prize fame, who - reportedly - read his own obituary that was mistakenly printed when his brother died and a newspaper got mixed up. He was horrified at what he read and realized he should change his behavior.
Don't count on a newsroom mix-up: Decide what you would like your obituary to say and live the life to deserve it.
Greatness does not come about through accumulating great amounts of money, great amounts of publicity or great power in government. When you help someone in any of thousands of ways, you help the world. Kindness is costless but also priceless. Whether you are religious or not, it's hard to beat The Golden Rule as a guide to behavior.
I write this as one who has been thoughtless countless times and made many mistakes but also became very lucky in learning from some wonderful friends how to behave better (still a long way from perfect, however).
Keep in mind that the cleaning lady is as much a human being as the Chairman.
Similarly, I had a female classmate who had to repeat 100 level due to very poor cgpa. In my school if your cgpa is less than 1.5 you’d sure as hell be probated or withdrawn.
While we moved on to 200 level, she remained in 100 level. Then months later, she left to Study in US, graduated ahead of us with a Magna Cum Laude, i.e, I think top 10% of her class.
She’s doing very well for herself today.
I'm still in awe of the incredible experience I had, from the delicious meals to the logistics and insightful sessions was 👌👌 The knowledge and inspiration gained will empower me to advocate for healthy living and spread the gospel of food justice

@egi_nupe I believe S. 39(9) of the CFRN and S. I2 of the Criminal Code Act will apply to bar a second trial. It would be against the rule against double jeopardy.

I think Nigerians, regardless of their political leanings, should sit down for a second and just appreciate the fact that Peter Obi is drawing huge crowds who all know he doesn’t have bags of cash waiting to distribute to them later. Think of what that means and let it sink in.
Participants are trooping in and going through registration.
You can participate in the conversations by joining us via Zoom (see image for details), following the LIVE stream on Facebook or through the LIVE tweet thread. #COP27andBeyond
