BREAKING:Former President Donald Trump and His Holiness Aram I - Catholicos of the Great House of Cilicia - discussed Artsakh’s rights, status, and return during a call initiated by the Republican presidential candidate.
According to an official statement from the Holy See of Cilicia, His Holiness Aram I expressed his appreciation for Mr. Trump’s public statement of support for the Armenian people and stressed the vital importance of U.S. global leadership at this critical time. His Holiness conveyed his strong expectation that with a new Administration the United States will deal seriously with the Artsakh issue – particularly with respect to ensuring the right of return for Artsakh’s Armenians, international guarantees for security and status, and accountability for ethnic cleansing. Furthermore, His Holiness voiced his expectation of robust Armenian representation under a new Administration, and the need for open dialogue with the Armenian Eastern and Western Prelacies of the Armenian Apostolic Church of America and the Armenian National Committee of America.
This follows a recent post by former President Trump rebuking the Biden-Harris Administration's failure to prevent the ethnic cleansing of Artsakh's Armenians, and committing to supporting peace in the region.
The ANCA has consistently engaged with both campaigns to elevate Artsakh to the national policy stage and welcomes the statements of support by both candidates on issues of concern to Armenian American voters. The ANCA has declined to endorse either candidate given the Trump Administration's provision of military assistance to Azerbaijan in the lead up to the 2020 Artskah War, and the Harris-Biden Administration's failure to prevent or respond to Azerbaijan's blockade and ethnic cleansing of Artsakh last year. The ANCA stated that it remains engaged with both candidates to ensure they act on their commitments to the Armenian-American community after Tuesday's elections.
Archbishop Bagrat Galstanyan has declined the Public Television Company's offer for a live interview.
“We don’t want a live interview. We want to deliver a message through the broadcast. The time for interviews has long passed,” Galstanyan stated.
Azerbaijan’s ethnic cleansing of the people of Artsakh has created a humanitarian disaster.
We must ensure that those responsible are held accountable.
And that the innocent victims of Artsakh are compensated for their immense losses.
