@armadillowilly@brewdog05@michaelscherer I don't think there has been a more brazen violation of constitutional law by an administration in the History of this country.
We aren't at war with Venezuela.
A crown tattoo or bulls jersey is not sufficient justification to detain and deport people without hearings.
@armadillowilly@brewdog05@michaelscherer Yes. This law was of questionable constitutionality even when used according to its intended purposes, such as the internment of Japanese people without cause while officially at war with Japan.
But arbitrarily saying we are at war with random gangs, and using tattoos to ID?
@armadillowilly@brewdog05@michaelscherer You are winking at the Government and saying, "don't worry I have complete faith that you'll always do the right thing and never exploit this power for nefarious reasons, I'm not worried about court and fair trials, just use your judgement, I trust the government."
@armadillowilly@brewdog05@michaelscherer The administration has been deporting people with no criminal records, and no immigration court hearings of any kind, based on things like the presence of tattoos featuring crowns, or photos wearing Chicago bulls jerseys, claiming these are evidence of gang affiliation.
@silver41398@brewdog05@michaelscherer This entire conversation is about constitutional restrictions on the United States Government.
Perhaps you are lost and didn't realize what you were commenting on?
@armadillowilly@brewdog05@michaelscherer Yes I did use that word, what exactly are you having trouble understanding?
Due process is the legally prescribed safeguard to protect citizens from being treated as non-citizens and deported.
It protects you, not illegal immigrants, and it doesn't work if you circumvent it
@armadillowilly@brewdog05@michaelscherer Wrong.
Judicial review is a required component of due process.
No unilateral administrative action is due process of law under any interpretation of law over last 800 years beginning with the magna carta.
You're ignorantly wacking away on a load-bearing pillar of democracy.
@brewdog05@michaelscherer You have to be incredibly stupid not to understand the reason for this...
Because without due process the government could kill/deport anyone and claim they weren't a citizen.
@brewdog05@michaelscherer False.
The 5th amendment is a restriction on the government, not a right of the citizenry. It applies to all persons in the jurisdiction of the US. Meaning no law enforcement action involving the deprivation of life, liberty, or property can be taken without due process.
@johnrackham82@liz_churchill10 Every alteration of the planet's climate is dangerous.
The more you divert from climate norms that lasted thousands of years, the less predictable weather patterns become.
Ask the people in west NC, or in WV, both saw record deadly floods in the last year.
@beachgalkar@krassenstein Believe it or not...
Not every idea Trump comes up with makes sense.
He's prone to using bombastic imagery in his rhetoric to catch attention and media coverage, because effective leadership is actually usually quite boring.
@beachgalkar@krassenstein Actually it won't, that's the point.
To update the structure takes massive engineering analysis and demolition efforts, a new construction doesn't.
Furthermore, it was never a good idea to build a prison on a small island surrounded by salt water with corrosion and logistics.
