Read Ernest Callenbach’s 1975 novel, Ecotopia, if you haven’t already. I couldn’t finish it, even as a more liberally minded youngster, but the picture it paints in the beginning is pretty awesome. It was influential on the Greens in the late 70s 🤙

If you haven’t read Sebastian Junger’s, Tribe: On Homecoming and Belonging, I highly recommend it. It’s a great “little book”, originally written for understanding his own PTSD, and that of GWOT soldiers, but expanding into something much larger, and fully applicable to humanity at large.

Tribe insulates and protects . Tribe is defined by existential dependency on other members, to such a degree that the horrors experienced by all, or specific members, such as warriors, are more easily psychologically survived due to having clear, immediate purpose. Think teams, squads, platoons (max). A member sees or performs violent acts in the company, and fore the lives of those which with they live most closely.

Junger, in his research, discovered that a majority of GWOT PTSD cases were members of rearguard units, with the hypothesis being that they were powerless to stop the threat (a diagnostic criterion for PTSD) of injury or death of friends in the frontline smaller units. One minute they were there, then they left and never returned.

Similar findings apply to street gangs, and gangs in prison, with members of the latter often finding themselves missing that certainty of belonging and purpose, some even committing new crimes just to go back to prison. I know and understand this institutional version from my time as a child in the foster care system. I experience it; it is real.

Junger also cites societal divisions over the validity of a war as being strong contributors to PTSD in veterans, and the resulting suicides.

I expect what we are seeing is a combination of these factors at play 🤙

Seeing through multiple worlds, timelines (past/present/future—all really but a singularity), or persons’ memories, today; clarity on which has not yet been revealed.

Upon waking this morning, and rolling on to my back from my side, behind closed eyelids I saw pages of print, yellowed, some columned, as in newspapers, some just fragments, revealed behind worn, patchy, wallpaper. The book pages and newspaper columns scrolled top to bottom, while the revealed patches just floated. But, rather than being oriented perfectly vertical, they were all rotated, with their “tops” angled towards the uppermost left hand corner of my visual field. When they would momentarily disappear, in their place complex geometric shapes, moving with kaleidoscopic pulsating bands of colored auroras—colors I can’t describe—simultaneously expanding and collapsing, then fading out and off in any direction, except the uppermost left hand corner of my visual field.

I could directed these geometric shapes into that avoided corner, simply by moving my eyes in that direction, but I don’t. I avoid that action for the results that follow; a neurological shock and whole body convulsion hit me the moment my eyes reach that border, sending me tumbling backward into the void, the utter blackness of which visions appear. Repetition revealed the path and the gate; repetition taught me the need for caution. This is not visual snow, or anything else that I have been able to discover; no, it’s something altogether different.

Perhaps today I will see if I can’t call forth what is waiting to be seen. If, perchance, tonight I cannot sleep, with my body thrumming with an increased electric pulse, I will lay on my back, lower my eyelids, and follow the upper left path. It has been a couple of weeks since I did so, inadvertently, and the clarity and force of what came stays with me, even today. I am currently writing a short story about the event and what I saw, through repeated openings and closings of my eyes, as there is a lot for one to understand about my history in order to grasp how I could possibly have this ability, or curse. Call it, my life as cosmic horror 🤙

You gotta be careful about who’s ideas you amplify, brother. The dude is a scumbag and won’t do anything for anyone. Posting pictures of identifiable people at public events, whose perceived crimes are being there in the first place, and spouting racist shit, isn’t populism, but rather, demagoguery.
