Luis, my loyal scribe, is out today. Who will type my notes? Who will print the after visit summaries? Who will carry me from room to room when my legs get tired? 😩
@queenofironyRN From that point on I was able to let off the leash a bit, and gradually allow him more autonomy as he began to master the skills required. It can be awkward, especially with someone who has experience elsewhere, but a more hands-on approach might help build that base. Good luck!
@queenofironyRN Before I was a nurse I was an air traffic controller, and I worked with a trainee who was really struggling. I ended up switching to a mode where I did a lot of hand-holding and direct instruction, until he learned the basics.
Episode 60 is here! Zach and LJ are joined by Kealie, who was a guest on episode 17 to talk about being a new nurse. She's back today to update us one year later. Then we talk about ethics in communication in healthcare. Enjoy!

The NEJM, a very staid, very conservative organization that can't even bring itself to name a single Republican in this piece, is surely still going to get a ton of shit from it's readers for this painfully obvious and self-evidently correct take.
Why has the United States handled this pandemic so badly? The Editors note that although we came into this crisis with enormous advantages, our current political leaders have demonstrated that they are dangerously incompetent.
Episode 59 is here! Today LJ and Zach have a short ep for you, they talk about hospital color codes (what does code brown really mean?) as well as hospital awards. A new segment to replace Zach takes the NCLEX is coming next week, enjoy!

Episode 58 is here! Today LJ and Zach talk about massive transfusion protocols, an explosive story about ICE abuse of prisoners and ethical issues around working with law enforcement, and NCLEX strangeness. Enjoy!

We talk about Ms. Wooten's allegations, and the wider issues of nursing ethics related to law enforcement, on this week's episode.
This story absolutely shocks the conscience, and her testimony, as well as that of the prisoners she cared for, can not be ignored.
Zach and LJ are finally back! On Episode 57, they talk about Zach taking the (actual) NCLEX and having a baby! After that, LJ fills us in on her new assignment. Enjoy!

Sorry we've been on hiatus for so long, but we have a good excuse that we're going to talk about next week Friday, September 11th. It starts with "Zach" and ends with "took the NCLEX and had a kid".
See you then!
@alphabetsoupy Yep, poor guy has CHF and pulmonary hypertension, and lately he's had some runs of SVT. So they put him on diltiazem a couple weeks ago and are now running this to make sure he's got good rate control.
He's a gold plated dog at this point :)
Tucker the podcast dog has to wear a Holter monitor, and he's not so happy about it. But on the plus side, he gets to take it off tomorrow, right around the time our new episode drops at 8am!
Episode 56 is here! Today, LJ and Zach talk about an article in The Atlantic by @KristenLiuMcC and another by Kathleen Park in the WaPo, urging teachers back to school. Then, LJ has a graduation surprise for Zach, who finished his BSN last week Friday!
