@tennesseejead @olentia09 @barstoolsports I did day trips for hikes from Bergen & Stavanger (Mount Ulriken & Fløyen in Bergen, Preikestolen/Pulpit Rock from Stavanger) so if you don't feel like hiking, you can definitely remove a day from each of those cities.

- Bus journey to Horten
- 1 day in Horten
- 4 days in Oslo

@SupportStandard As an aside, if Chicago was to move to CST +30 (UTC-5:30), their daylight pattern would closely mirror Erie, PA under permanent EST. Boston at EST+30 (UTC-4:30) would be close to Buffalo, NY under permanent EST.

@SupportStandard Your average solar noon under ST is 12:18 PM, while Chicago is at 11:51 AM and Boston is at 11:44 AM. Chicago and Boston have 6+ weeks of pre-5:00 PM darkness and no twilight after 8:00 PM in summer on ST. Move Chicago & Boston to ST +30 min, and they would be fine on perm ST.

@fraulein57 @mr_jay_pea @DavidJHarrisJr I can definitely see it, as more evening light = more $$$ for his golf courses. Ironically, the best time to golf in Florida during the summer is the early morning, and permanent ST there would provide more hours to golf before work in comfortable weather.

@julsadventures Yesterday was ridiculous. I was on the SB #91 bus from Jefferson Park since the SB #90 stops running after 8:45 PM. Wait time for a WB #72 was 20 minutes (I just missed 2 bunched together) and wait time for Harlem Green Line was 15-20 minutes. Called a Lyft from Austin/Chicago

@ABoleynGirl @SaveStandard No, the push is likely coming from Chicago and New England residents annoyed by pre-5:00 PM darkness in winter. It actually would work over there and other areas with pre-12:00 PM solar noons (as average solar noon would be before 12:30 PM), but should not be done nationwide.

@4096_555 This is Wrigley Field (home of the Chicago Cubs), not Rate Field (Chicago White Sox). But yes, the vibe is outstanding (the park was built in 1914) and is comparable to Hanshin Koshien Stadium, which I visited in April 2026 along with Meiji Jingu Stadium.

@courtney883 IMHO, Rate Field is generic, and was unfortunately built just before Camden Yards (which redefined the modern ballpark). It should have also faced N/NE to get the skyline in the background.

It's still not a bad park, and concessions + access to I-90/94 and CTA/Metra are great!

@mr_jay_pea No to pST in Chicago - it would get dark by 6:00 PM by October 1 and it's dark by 5:00 PM from November 15 - December 31. "Splitting the difference"/+30 min would work well in Illinois - the western areas (Galena/Quad Cities/Quincy/St. Louis) could stay on ST if Iowa/Missouri do

@erniechases Or maybe it's just that the teams viewed a rainbow logo as a marketing gimmick and not as authentic support for the LGBTQ+ community. Same thing with corporate floats in pride parades - now that more people view LGBTQ+ negatively (esp. the T), which companies will participate?
