Scientific research shows children have the best outcomes when parents have joint physical custody following separation, except when there is abuse or neglect.
A review of the best quality scientific research concludes that children do best when they spend roughly equal time (minimum 35%) living with each of their parents after separation, except when there is abuse or neglect (Neilson, 2018).

@soniasodha@guardian Denying the existence of Parental Alienation, against all the scientific research of the past 20 years, is like denying the existence of domestic abuse. It's an absurd position. And to portray PA as a gender issue is disingenuous. It's a child protection issue.
@drsue2014 Counsellor & psychotherapist are not 'protected titles' which means anyone with no training can legally claim to be one. I wonder how many people are aware of what accreditation by a professional body means. IMO this is a public education issue.
Should there be statutory regulation of counsellors & psychotherapists? IMO - yes. This would at least ensure minimum standards, ethical practice & some recourse when things go wrong.
