Maybe they did only happen for the first season, I’d be curious to watch some episodes back and see if I notice anything different.
I thought I heard a noticeable live audience laugh track while watching the unaired pilot.
Drake & Josh, iCarly, and every Dan show that followed were different from Hannah Montana, Wizards of Waverly Place, and The Suite Life in one key way: they were multi-camera sitcoms, but they weren’t filmed in front of a live studio audience.
From what I’ve heard, it only happened once—and never again—during the filming of the original & unaired Drake & Josh pilot.
Before Drake & Josh, shows Schneider were a part of regularly incorporated live audiences, including The Amanda Show, Kenan & Kel, and All That.
But after experimenting with a live audience for scenes of the unaired Drake & Josh pilot, they never returned to it.
Shortly after Merry Christmas Drake & Josh aired, the LA Times stated “Drake & Josh in New York!” was in the works.
I’m very curious to know where they got this information. I reached out to a producer on D&J and was told [That’s the first time I’m hearing about this].
Perhaps this is an idea an executive
at Nickelodeon had or wanted & told the LA Times, but it sure never came from the creative forces actually making the show/movie.
@childhoodsource Do you know the answer to this? I remember this tweet I made a while back and Josh responded but either meant to say “Not true” or “No, true” but I always wondered if they episode was real, because i remembered hearing the rumor
I often wonder if Michael brought this up to Jerry on the set of Wendell & Vinnie. Imagine how that conversation might have went?
Based on their personalities, I’m sure it wasn’t even awkward in the slightest. What a full circle, very cool moment.
If actor Michael Miranda had nailed this Drake & Josh scene during run through, we might never have gotten Jerry Trainor as Crazy Steve—and later, Spencer.
Michael was originally cast as Crazy Steve, but after he ended up being the wrong fit for the role, Jerry stepped in at the 11th hour, and the rest is history.
What still blows my mind is that years later, Michael and Jerry ended up sharing a scene together on Wendell & Vinnie.

Years ago, I quite literally discovered a box in storage with close to 20 Drake & Josh season two scripts, various versions.
It dawned on me that that an early draft of the ‘Movie Job’ episode might exist. And it did. I was smart enough to find the table draft version & take a picture of the cast list.
Could not believe it. Also could not believe he was in a scene with Jerry years later. What are the odds?

Technically we can say it is, yes! Totally Teri was a name of a TV show in the iTake on Dingo episode.
Here’s a screenshot from Dan’s old blog talking about this.
So by the time they filmed their second episode of Zoey, both the title & logo was confirmed.
*And I think it was actually named Zoey 101 by the time they started filming the pilot in May, but I’m not physically able to check the pilot script I own at the moment.
I was able to find a copy of episode #102, New Roomies, which is pretty revealing.
The title Zoey 101 is not only confirmed, but the logo was set & locked in too.
Interesting to note because when iCarly filmed their second episode, they had a different logo than the one we know.
Before it was titled Zoey 101, the working title for the show was Totally Zoey.
It was deemed too cheesy of a title after some early rewrites, so it was changed.
Here’s the script from March 31st, 2004 with the title. The pilot was shot a month & a half later.

Jack Black’s approach to appearing on iCarly was pretty insane.
He decided to treat it like a single camera project and had zero rehearsal for the role.
Anyone familiar with the multi-camera format knows there are usually multiple rehearsal days built into the schedule.
He got the script just a couple days before shooting, watched one run-through the day prior (with the dialogue coach filling in for him), then showed up the next day and just performed. It was a huge part, too!
Total pro. Not surprising.
I was able to dig up a Zoey 101 podcast interview from 2005 & Victoria Justice had said the R-E-J-E-C-T-E-D chant was her favorite cheer in the episode.
Even then, they knew it was iconic.
I’ll never forget a classmate of mine singing it in class in 5th grade. I clocked it immediately & said “Zoey 101?!” It’s so catchy.
While filming iLost My Mind, Nathan Kress officially completed high school.
Since he was tutored on set & couldn’t have a traditional graduation, the cast & crew brought the graduation to him.
They even created a fake Ridgeway diploma with his name on it. Footage of this moment—including him turning the tassel on his graduation cap—was captured & included in the iRetrospective video released on iTunes.
Haha, yeah. Silly me didn’t even realize iTunes is strictly music now, whoops. That change must have happened years ago.
Not sure how it is now, but back when I purchased it, when you bought the entire iCarly series on iTunes/Apple TV store, the iRetrospective video was included.
