#WesternSyria | Ghab Plain: Surveillance Cameras Capture #HTS-led General Security Militias Escorting Gunmen Who Fired on Civilians
Footage from Al-Jaid village, which has a #Murshidi majority, shows General Security militias accompanying gunmen who opened fire on unarmed civilians this afternoon, June 23, 2026. The attack left four civilians wounded, including a woman in critical condition. The video shows General Security militia vehicles leading gunmen on motorcycles as they shot at residents.
My friend and I were in a cab trying to stop at the entrance of the Alawite-majority district Mezzeh 86 when we were told by two guards at the Lycée Charles de Gualle that the area was being attacked by mobs. We got out and this was what we saw moments later:
🚨 #Damascus: A protest raised sectarian chants in the area surrounding the Ash al-Warwar neighborhood, a predominantly Alawite, in Damascus, on the evening, June 15, 2026.
Despite the presence of General Security militias, the protest was neither dispersed nor were any of the demonstrators arrested for raising sectarian chants and hurling insults at Alawites. This is despite the fact that the protest was unlicensed and considered a violation of the law under the new protest law (which itself curtails freedom of expression).
This law appears to be a politically weaponized tool used by the #STG, one that was previously invoked to shut down protests condemning the dire economic situation, on the grounds of lacking a permit (even though permit applications were denied in the first place), while today, that same law turns a blind eye to protests raising sectarian slogans that threaten civil peace, stoke sectarian strife, and promote division.
Chaos and lynchings prevail in all Sunni cities and towns in Syria. Jolani's gangs are attacking Sunnis they dislike, labeling them as Shabiha (pro-Assad). Sunni Homes and businesses are being attacked many areas.
