For example, I'm not personally convinced that pre-Vatican-II Latin Mass culture was some sort of Shangri-La of devotion and piety.

Great-grandma told of Priests flying through the Mass (low Mass only), no one read along in the Missal, etc.

Ironically, today's very gorgeous, pious, devoted Latin Mass culture is almost certainly an oblique (and very excellent) fruit of the Second Vatican Council.

Often, those who revive a lost or dying thing seem to do it far more fastidiously than those who were originally doing it, and I think this is lost on a lot of "trads."
