Thousands of students protested in Santiago on June 3 against President Jose Antonio Kast’s austerity measures and education budget cuts. The national strike, called by student federation Confech, led to violent clashes as police fired water cannons and tear gas to disperse demonstrators. At least one student was injured and dragged away by officers. Metro stations were temporarily closed during the unrest.
Kast's approval rating has fallen from 57% to 38% since taking office in March, according to pollster CADEM, with many analysts and observers calling his administration Chile's most far-right since Augusto Pinochet's military dictatorship. Kast's father was a German-born military officer and Nazi Party member who escaped US custody near the end of WWII and later immigrated to Chile, where his family became highly influential in national politics

zagala, seizing key terrain doesn’t mean torturing & executing vilma salabao & four other farmworkers, including burning the genitals of jhonatan & niño alberga, in baras, rizal in 2021

Key terrain marks an advantage to both sides of combatants. It is where the battle is fought and where the outcome is decided. Never leave key terrain, seizing it again will be twice as difficult.
@SomeSomething22 Imo, the most consequential financial liberalization occurred in the '70s: the quasi-multilateral elimination of almost all capital & forex controls that had been in place since Bretton Woods, enabling the organization & rationalization of capitalist production on a global scale.
this is the funniest fucking thing ever what do you mean remulla doesn't even have backup and just struggled against like 20 guys in a doorway for 10 seconds

@totalnewbie1 You have to have a very specific and elite-centric notion of the political to approach the wave of urban and suburban rebellions throughout the 2010s as primarily a PMC non-profit psyop. That certainly wasn't the experience of the people on the ground subject to state repression
I think this characterization that it was "just" two cities really undersells just how significantly Ferguson and Flint reverberated through American politics. In addition, claiming that bc the 2020 uprisings had no programmatic demands they were apolitical is a very flat reading
This is a good rebuttal to the idea that oil companies backed the Iraq War but it misses the strategic analysis. The US and UK invaded Iraq to break OPEC. The new regime freely extracted oil which kept prices low, thus stabilizing global oil markets at a low price level.
@mikeaquinoafp a reminder that this is what you mass-murdering folks sound like every time you bring up approval rates for…*checks notes*…massacring farmers and IPs
