There is a disclaimer at begining of show including about not giving diagnoses, but her suggestion about the little girl developing borderline personality disorder based on this was clear as day and totally unjustified. Incredibly disappointing. #nurturevsnurture
Listening to the 1st episode of the podcast #nurturevsnurture and was horrified at the host's insinuation that the little girl would develop BPD if the father kept giving her the attention she wanted at bed time. More nuanced than that, but barely. The host is a clinical psych.
Things which get my back up:
- being told someone "refused to engage" did you ask them why? Did YOU try to engage them? Is this the right Tx for them?
- being told someone "has capacity" but this not being decision specific, or, impact of MH on decision making being ignored.
If your training on ‘trauma informed care’, self-harm, suicidality or diagnosis specific trainings aren’t co-produced (properly, not the NHS tick box version of co-pro) and (bare minimum) co-facilitated by someone with lived experience, stop delivering it.
@JDaviesPhD With focus on crisis, some examples include; incorrect or harmful advice, shaming, failure to consider social factors/trauma, lack of access to (adequate) (crisis) services, zero prevention, patients acting as own Care Co's, widespread misapplication of MCA & disregard for MHA
@JDaviesPhD That people are being systematically harmed by the healthcare system itself, as well as individuals within it. To support healing, professionals needs to acknowledge that harm, work with it, & understand what they can do to reduce this happening in future inc. through education.
It is possible to be happy about a diagnosis
I'm not happy about the fact I have a severe and enduring mental illness
I am however, happy I have an explanation for it. A validity. A word to describe why things are so hard sometimes
So yes, you can be happy about a diagnosis

You can self-refer to a free 6-week course of supported-self help for depression, anxiety, grief and more at @CStaywell (Fridays).
Based on CBT but (I think) less rigid.
Practitioner is very 'human', non-judgemental, & seems to 'get it'.

Tbf gotta respect the BBC kicking off mental health awareness week with "you lot are all scammers"
Really nailing their colours to the mast on that one.
