I was delghted to receive the new General Officer Commanding (GOC) 82 Division, Nigerian Army, Major General Oluyemi Thomas Olatoye, at the Government House. We had a productive meeting and I reaffirmed our administration’s commitment to security in Enugu State.

Our zero-tolerance approach to criminality is systematically flushing out crime, making Enugu safer for residents and businesses. From the onset, we recognised security as the biggest challenge to our economic growth, and we took decisive action by deploying technology, strengthening community policing, and deepening collaboration with security agencies.

The results speak for themselves. Criminal networks have been dismantled, and perpetrators are fleeing. Our people now enjoy a more secure environment, and investor confidence in Enugu is growing. We will continue to prioritise security, providing the necessary support to our security forces to ensure that Enugu remains a place where businesses flourish and our people thrive.

Today, as we commemorate the 32nd anniversary of the creation of our beloved Enugu State, I salute the determination and sacrifices of our founding fathers and all those who contributed in one way or the other in the tortuous journey of ensuring that the quest for a state of our own came to fruition. We will never take their sacrifices for granted.

Our agenda is to immortalise them by fashioning out a state that they would be proud of and a state that would stand as a reference point in socioeconomic transformation in the country.

Over the past 32 years, we have witnessed some commendable transformations meant at sustaining the dreams of our founding fathers. However, what our administration is doing is that we are no longer comfortable with the incremental model because the world is fast evolving through technologies and new ways of doing things.

We started this by laying a new foundation that would disrupt the sub-optimisation in governance. We have started doing things differently because we want a state where posterity will be kind to us. We want a state where our children will judge us fairly. We want a state where poverty will be a thing of the past.

We understand that these are not going to be easy, but with your support, and our commitment to our governance philosophy, I can say we will get there faster than ever imagined.

We are determined to take our economy from the present $4.4 billion to $30 billion, and we are laying the necessary foundations for this exponential economic revolution.

We have made consequential statements on security and backed them with action to guarantee investment inflow. And we will not rest on our oars until the last atom of threat to peace and security is escorted out of our state.

I was pleased to recieve a great son of Enugu, Amobi Ezeaku yesterday at the Lion building. He visited to present his FIFA Master and UEFA Certificate in Football Management to me. Ezeaku is the first Igbo person to have both. He has done very well and we couldn't be more proud of him.

In keeping with his campaign promise, Governor Peter Mbah today set up a committee to verify & clear backlong of pensions & gratuitities owed to retired workers in the state.

Today, I inaugurated a seven-man committee chaired by the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Prof. Chidiebere Onyia, to oversee the verification and payment of outstanding pensions and gratuities to Enugu State retirees.

This is in line with our campaign promise to clear pension and gratuity arrears. The committee shall determine and verify outstanding two-month pension arrears to state retirees, determine and verify the outstanding gratuities owed to state retirees, conduct all payments according to months and years of retirement of officers from service, and render monthly and quarterly reports to the SSG in respect of all payments.

In a bid to eradicate poverty, our target is to design policies that would be favourable to our vulnerable ones. We believe that this step will help in cushioning the effect of the subsidy removal by the FG on our people.

Yesterday, the Deputy Governor, Barr Ifeanyi Ossai and I paid a condolence visit to Justice Ugonne Jacinta Nweze - wife of late Justice C. C. Nweze of the Supreme Court - and her family at their residence in Enugu.

May God console them and grant them the fortitude to bear the irreplaceable loss.

I said some weeks ago that water had started running some places in Enugu, people came at me. Look at the 2 of the 18 industrial boreholes being built by Governor @PNMbah. Each generates 150,000 litres of water per hour. Know that this is aside Ajali and Oji water being fix now.
