The film — a big-budget adaptation of Homer’s ancient Greek epic — stars Matt Damon, Zendaya, Lupita Nyong’o (as Helen of Troy), and others… but **not a single prominent ethnic Greek actor**.

Greek City Times (a publication dedicated to Hellenism) called it out:

“For years Hollywood has lectured us about representation and cultural sensitivity… yet this cornerstone of Greek civilization has zero Greeks in it.”

They argue: If diversity and authenticity matter so much, why is Greek representation invisible in its own foundational story?

Nolan has defended the diverse casting, but the hypocrisy debate is heating up.

@JoshuaLisec As someone from southeast asia, the Iliad and Odyssey is part of our curriculum in high school. Lupita studied acting in Yale if I'm not mistaken, and they didn't learn about Greek Mythology. Yeah right. hahahah.

Not obsessed with the winners. I would have been more excited if it were Minotaur, Black Ball or AOAS. Fjord is definitely a surprise. I’m still working through some conflicting feelings about if it really provoked me as much as it wanted to.

Fjord is a custom-made European arthouse slop, aiming to please—or rather, to make “uncomfortable” those people who don’t have the intellectual capacity to think outside of fake moral dilemmas built on preconceived cultural and social stereotypes. Worst Palme of the decade.
