It's a very strange feeling to devote one's career and life to the rule of law, and discover that the high priests and priestess have effectively wiped that north star out of existence.
Whatever it was, American law is now just politics. The Supreme Court is captured.
@rnadworny@whatssheesaid Not sure I understand your point. City was in default with no defense and owner of the fiber wanted it back and also wanted all of the lease payments. Resolving the litigation and getting to keep the fiber and business (and choice for Burlington residents) was huge.
@rnadworny@whatssheesaid We leased the fiber. City owned the business and goodwill but not the fiber. We agreed to pay them and then defaulted. Citibank sued for asset. BT was worth nothing without fiber.
@rnadworny@whatssheesaid Rich. You are wrong. We did not own the fiber and CitiBank wanted its asset back. Budget deficit had nothing to do with BT litigation.
@DavidBeckettVT Drives me crazy. It’s everywhere downtown. Not an enforcement priority. Lack of understanding that removal costs are material and raise rents.
@ScullyBully @CounselorAdrian Something isn’t right. Monthly payments on a tax bill of 8100 is $675. You could not have been paying $75/month last year. I would call the bank.
@ScullyBully The reassessment was revenue neutral. It also showed homes in the south end and hill section appreciated more than other areas. Taxes went up in south end and down in other areas. Commercial also went down.
Our thoughts are with the friends, colleagues and loved ones of Vermont attorney, Jerry Oneill. A personal friend and mentor to me and a fierce advocate for justice. He will be missed. Thank you @wcax@WCAX_Darren for this tribute.

@BettyPhuck65 @MiroBTV@OneNorthAvenue Just a thought here, but you might want to learn your facts before laying blame on mayor. Otherwise sit this one out.
@rnadworny@liamgriffin I agree Rich but anyone claiming there is not a problem is gaslighting. None of the Mayor, city council, business owners can solve this alone. I am not in contois anymore but I’ve not heard anyone suggest hiring more police is the solution much less the only solution.
@liamgriffin@rnadworny I respectfully disagree. I work downtown and am there 5 days/week. I am addressing and responding to concerns from staff and clients every single day. It is a tragic situation and putting up fences and barricades is not working. The politicians are not crying wolf.
@MrVoT1313@CounselorAdrian The time commitment is material. A typical week includes a council meeting, a committee meeting, an NPA or other non council meeting and a caucus. As Ed has repeatedly stated, the time commitment and compensation do not line up.
