@VegasAdjacent@AnecdocheEcho@FilmThePoliceLA But registering them, canvassing them for candidates, and reminding them to vote is a legal part of the democratic process. We all want as many citizens as possible to exercise their franchise, right? Even poor ones?
@VegasAdjacent@AnecdocheEcho@FilmThePoliceLA That is the only thing you should have included. Listing a series of irrelevant, legal activities makes it seem like you’re confused about the law. Violations of the law should be reported to the police.
@VegasAdjacent@AnecdocheEcho@FilmThePoliceLA Registration drives are not illegal. Petition signature gathering is also normal and is conducted for measures all over the political spectrum. Pressure on voters is illegal but canvassing for a particular candidate is not and occurs for candidates of both parties.
@MiriVinni It’s a myth that they need to be about adversity. Martyr / sob story essays are generally bad. Any kid can talk about an experience that helped develop their character, etc
@ybnl_guzman@stoolpresidente He means the real world of Meaningful Work, like facilitating gambling addictions or hosting podcasts offering evidence-free hot takes to the masses. Making discoveries that contribute to human knowledge and progress “sucks”
@mtaibbi That’s just not true. California, the biggest state and the one Trump complains most about, allowed mail ballots on request before Trump ever ran for elected office. It’s standard. The “problem” comes from Trump sowing doubt in our elections to justify a coup should he lose
@luannab@ivy_hollanov@gabu_moon Yes, they like to repost satirical memes mocking Trump’s immigration policies that Edvin liked & a recent NBC article critical of Trump (he lied about the deportations saving money & now claims cost doesn’t matter), to claim Edvin supports Trump (?). Makes no sense.
@rozrry@ilyacig The vast majority of his public activity is liberal, before & after. Those 2 are satire critical of Trump. He follows Z & liked many photos of her before that & unliked after it was pointed out. I think he just used to be a little careless with the like button. He’s not Trumpy
@esjesjesj And it also isnt a “statistical anomaly beyond reasonable explanation.” The shift in the count is in fact easily explained if you understand that voters are not randomly assigned to voting method and time
@Acommunaltable@covie_93 Well, ofc there are Republicans & unsurprisingly you know them. I also only know Democrats in Texas, but I understand they are in the minority. LA has not had a Republican mayor since the 90s & has voted for the D in presidential elections by a margin of over 25 points since ‘92
@Acommunaltable@covie_93 Raman being second place earlier in the count would also have been plausible. What would be implausible is a Republican being elected mayor of LA. If a Democrat were elected governor of Alabama, I’d be skeptical of that too.
@AdamLehrerSP@DisgracedProp I’m just a person. Scroll my past replies. You’ll see I comment on all kinds of random stuff. AI in academia. Movies. Etc. You seemed like a real person & I sometimes wish we could discuss this stuff across the divide. I don’t know any Republicans IRL. Sorry for trying.
