I would also add, the idea that secularism, human rights, rationalism, etc. are somehow inherently alien to cultures outside the west is deeply infantilising and insulting to these people.

it's funny how the most popular intro to buddhism book is all "we're so rational and peaceful not like the other religions teehee" and you look at Actually Practiced Buddhism and it's about summoning buddha's avatar to get rich and escaping the 10,000 hells and also shiva's there
