It is humbling to consider that if we harness just 1 millionth of the Sun’s power for AI, that will be much more than a million times the intelligence of all of humanity
What does it take to build a truly global innovation bridge?
Here are some insights from "The French Riviera & Indian IITs: Building a Bilateral Innovation Corridor", a strategic dialogue at Bharat Innovates 2026, Nice, bringing together IIT leaders and the French innovation ecosystem to explore the next phase of France-India collaboration in research, deep tech, innovation, and entrepreneurship, conducted by the Deputy Mayor of NICE and Prof. Milind Atrey (Deputy Director- Academics, Research and Translation, IIT Bombay).
India’s IITs and the French Riviera represent two highly complementary innovation ecosystems — both shaped by openness, diversity, and a strong belief in knowledge-driven progress. What emerged clearly from this conversation is that the opportunity now goes far beyond academic exchange.
There is strong alignment around priority sectors including AI, clean energy, healthcare, cybersecurity, semiconductors, quantum, and agritech. The IIT system brings world-class research talent, growing startup ecosystems, and the ability to innovate at scale. The French ecosystem brings applied research institutions, industry networks, incubators, and valuable pathways into European markets.
The next chapter of France–India collaboration will depend on translating these strengths into joint action: deeper industry-linked R&D, curated market access for startups, soft-landing support, startup-to-startup partnerships, and joint innovation programs designed for real-world deployment.
If done well, this could become a powerful bilateral innovation corridor — one that connects research, entrepreneurship, and industrial adoption across both ecosystems.

IIT Bombay is rethinking how power reaches the machines of the future. Its Solid State Transformer is now on the international stage.
IIT Bombay is proud to present Solid State Transformers (SSTs) at Bharat Innovates 2026 in Nice, France (14–16 June).
Built at IIT Bombay's Department of Electrical Engineering, the SST is a new kind of transformer. It converts high-voltage power in a single step instead of many, so it's smaller, more efficient, and easier to scale.
The team already has a working module running, with a larger 200 kW prototype on the way. Early results: up to 5% more efficiency, 45% less copper, and 1/5th size
Designed for AI data centres, fast EV charging and renewable energy grids, the SST is IIT Bombay's engineering for the energy systems of the future.

AI that thinks in India's own languages.
IIT Bombay is proud to present BharatGen to the world: Open, multilingual AI for India's languages and people, at Bharat Innovates 2026 in Nice, France (14–16 June).
BharatGen is built at IIT Bombay's Department of Computer Science and Engineering, led by Prof. Ganesh Ramakrishnan, with Rishi Bal (CEO) and Dr. Maneesh Singh (VP, ML) with a consortium of 9 premier academic institutions. A team of 60+ researchers, engineers and linguists are building AI that includes all scheduled Indian languages, across text, speech and documents.
-> Param2, its foundational text model with reasoning, coding, and tool calling capabilities works across all 22 scheduled Indian languages
-> Shrutam2, for automatic multilingual speech recognition/ STT across Indian languages
-> Sooktam2, a text-to-speech models with zero-shot voice cloning across Indian languages
-> Patram, a document vision model built for understanding Indian-specific documentation
BharatGen powers services in governance, healthcare, education, insurance, finance, and cultural preservation.
A national effort backed by DST and the IndiaAI Mission, BharatGen is India's push for open, homegrown AI, built for 1.4 billion people.

The events of the last 6 months in technology are arguable amongst the most important in human history
The tools now increasingly exist for recursive self improvement of models & agents
We are likely in very early lift off & exponential
Largely unnoticed outside of tech
