I want someone to do a YouTube experiment called “making a toaster in the US vs China”
Start with $10m in each country and try to make a new toaster brand.
For New Toaster USA and New Toaster China, publicly detail the BOM in each business, and show the process of procuring it from vendors. Timelines, costs, what it’s like to work within the industry.
Then make a manufacturing line. Get the real estate, secure the permits, hire the people, start selling.
I think that it will become very obvious very fast that “cheaper labor” has absolutely nothing to do with the difference in timeline, cost and outcome
