It’s ironic that the clearest explanation as to why AI art is and will always be garbage that I’ve read so far was, in fact, given by AI. Great work by Damon K plumbing some uncomfortable depths.

Everyone in the managerial level of the music industry has job / financial security, and somehow the artists still do not.
We’re here to change that.
Stay tuned 🔊🎵🎼🎶
Pretty much nobody wants this but it does solve a longstanding problem for the management class in the music industry: how do we make money without paying or having to deal with artists

@telefontelaviv@choradotlive The reason I have such trust in this platform is knowing how deep you and the other founders are in these ecosystems. You all have lived through most phases of music discovery over the years (legal and otherwise), and actually care about this stuff. 🙏🏻
I'm serious, me being annoying to Nigel about the Library filtering and sorting for @choradotlive has resulted in what I swear to you all is the pinnacle of experiencing music on a mobile phone. Massive quality of life improvement over whatever you're using now xx
We've long suspected that Spotify was recruiting fake artists and juicing them in its algorithm and placing them on the most popular playlists. Liz Pelly collected the internal docs + other evidence to finally prove it.
This was one of the first problems we encountered as a reason to build Chora. Suffice it to say, this will be a totally seamless process for our users.
it’s amazing how shitty it is trying to put a song on an iPhone lol complete company wide amnesia or something Eternal Sunshine levels. these guys dominated the Mp3 player market for 2 decades? transferring an audio file from computer to device is completely unintelligible. ???
sometimes i look at these streaming music interfaces and i want to puke. they physically make me ill. how dare they define and replace listening experiences. thats how dramatic i am about it
BREAKING: An industry group representing Comcast, Disney, Warner Bros. Discovery and other corporate interests is suing to block the FTC's new "click to cancel" rule that requires companies to make canceling a subscription just as easy as it was to sign up.
We definitely won’t boot people who are using AI tools like Datamind (which is a way of processing your sounds real time in a DAW) but as far as gen AI slop, that’s a no from us, Dawg.
The evidence suggests Spotify is intentionally allowing itself to be overrun with AI music:
- Verified artists with AI-sounding vocals, no other online presence
- Some with hundreds of thousands of monthly listeners
- Spotify has doubled down on their messaging that they don’t have a policy against this
- No labelling of AI music means there is no public data on this
As I say in this article by @stokel, Spotify should ban any music made using AI models trained on copyrighted music without permission - these models are training on people’s music to compete with them. And, if it is going to allow other AI music, it should clearly label it so that consumers have a choice over what to listen to.
There’s not only a clear ethical case for this, but a business case too. Platforms that fill themselves with copyright-laundering AI slop will become irrelevant.
