Hintergrund: Mit Österreich und Portugal ziehen zwei gemäßigte Staaten in den UN-Sicherheitsrat ein. Deutschland, das den Ukrainekonflikt anheizt und Angriffe auf Venezuela und Iran relativiert, ist für Diplomatie und Friedenspolitik denkbar ungeeignet.

Als Ausreden vernimmt man, wir hätten uns „erst” 2019 beworben und daher „nur” sieben Jahre Zeit gehabt, Stimmen zu sammeln. Auch hätten viele Staaten ihre Zusagen in der geheimen Wahl gebrochen.

Aber das ist gerade das Problem: Die Bundesregierung wird als Zahlmeister und Trottel gesehen. Sympathie und Unterstützung genießt sie auf internationalem Parkett ebensowenig wie daheim.
