the notion of low cardinality adhoc reference ids often doesn't get reasonable buy-in from pure techie types as they feel arbitrary meaningless numeric ids are somehow more pure. they aren't ideal for some cases. convention as configuration is often useful.
Always astounds me when I buy things as a consumer online how few companies have simple UX / UI. Equivalent to searching the entire collection at the British library for a book I could buy at Sainsbury’s. Difficult, painful and unnecessary.
important to completely prevent people from using things in a way they should never use them. you can't assume people will have common sense. most take the "ask forgiveness rather than permission" approach, which can be disastrous in the hands of someone with bad judgement.
when you are dealing with asynchronous code, its important to have logging / auditing / visibility into everything that's going on. one of the mistakes i've seen in systems in the past is the assumption that "it will just work" without having monitoring to verify that factually.
i think of backend developers who insist the unix shell is the ultimate user interface because its like a musical instrument. okay, but musicians are specialists. they aren't most users.
the problem statement involves the blind spot... where smart people just assume "the user will know that." that is invisible implicit knowledge, & it will help everyone if its eliminated.
imagine an API that provides so much context & logical structure & metadata that you can respond to the response very generically.
an unsolved computer science problems is how to eliminate implicit context, in favor of relevant explicit context. a blind spot of smart people.
it is wonderful to have new frameworks. it is more wonderful to carefully choose well designed, maintainable, solid tools rather than shiny toys.
