Look at Kenya. They charged 3% on the value of every digital asset transaction from 2023. Kept it 21 months. Collected very little. Repealed it in 2025. The chairman of their own Finance Committee compared it to being taxed for depositing money in your bank, and when they considered simply halving it to 1.5%, they decided even that was still too damaging.

1.5% is our rate.

Those who do not learn from history are condemned to repeat it.

Yes, we need revenue. We have one of the lowest tax-to-GDP ratios anywhere. But you do not raise revenue by pushing your most visible taxpayers, who are most our young people, somewhere nobody can see them.
