US startups are growing faster, faster than their other-country siblings.
The increase in growth rate delta is timed with the advent of LLMs. Startups using AI tools to grow faster seems to be one of those "the future is already here – it's just not evenly distributed" things.
@jeff_weinstein Why is that do you think?
For me, (e) always comes down to some combination of perfectionism, over-optimism, and not truly understanding what problem needs to be solved (c).
Read about the "What would have to be true?" technique straight from @RogerLMartin at https://t.co/HBirvVTxgP or pick up the Heath brothers' excellent book, Decisive.
One of my favorite decision-making tools is Roger Martin's "What would have to be true?"
Instead of defending solution A based on *what you believe to be* true, simply ask *what would have to be* true to select B instead.
This is what GPT-4 says about the future of AI with it.
Much of the recent debate I've seen focuses on the technological advancement piece, but I think GPT-4 correctly calls out that there are many factors at play that will determine which industries are disrupted, to what degree, and on what timelines.
had the great privilege to work with @zsteinkamp, albeit briefly, and wanted to share his write up on working at @stripe in general and @atlas in specific: https://t.co/d2DBvVmqA6
🛍 @amazon started using Stripe in 2017 to expand in Asia and Europe, and support millions of Prime Day, Black Friday, and Cyber Monday purchases around the world.
Today, @amazon is significantly expanding its use of our payments platform. https://t.co/T83jyh04F2
Black Friday/Cyber Monday [BFCM] is a big deal for our users. So it’s a big deal for @stripe too.
We handled billions of $s in sales each day of BFCM. A 5 minute downtime = tens of millions in lost revenue for our users.
Here's how we achieved >99.9999% uptime. 👇

Hundreds of engineers at Stripe are using it every day.
It has been running in production for more than a year at Stripe.
40+ companies have been helping us polish it in private beta.
Now, it's opensource. Please try it and share your experience!
I've had the pleasure of working with Niels -- one of the world's preeminent security experts -- for the past six months. If protecting Stripe businesses from some of the world's most sophisticated attackers sounds interesting to you, consider applying. ⬇
