@elonmusk What’s coming was avoidable, but Republicans in Congress let Trump start a war, increase spending, arm a genocide, betray MAHA, and cover up for Epstein’s coconspirators. I was ousted with over $30 million of foreign lobby money for refusing to go along, and here we are.
This is one of the most important pieces of social science on human and AI interaction that I’ve seen in some time. Experts follow agentic advice the vast majority of the time (causally), but only a tiny fraction credit the agent—majority think they came to decision on their own volition.
Reminds me of the classic Nisbett and Wilson study on people following outside influence without realizing it
“ But as more work is handed to AI—including AI safety research—these judgment calls are the main levers for people's own values to influence outcomes.
If people defer to AI without noticing, then "human in the loop" might provide less assurance than people expect.”
Sure but then let’s ban beef and pork and chicken….and also vegetables too because is a study that says that maybe indications of suffering…..we have children hungry in USA and the World….lets end hunger and then we talk….. 😇
I am voting against the foie gras ban because I am offended that anyone is spending time, money and energy on this. I don’t eat that nastiness, I hate the process, but this is not a good use of resources
The problem here is that the speed of AI producing surprises, and the speed of human beings replacing standards (even with the very best AI assistance) are just orders of magnitude different. You only recover from a surprise like this if you do the preparation in advance.
@wmata@wmataGM FYI the elevator from street level to the station on the east side at brookland-cua is not working and apparently the only way for me to report this using an official channel is to make a phone call
parents the world over today are forcing their children into misguided rat races for some status ladder that almost certainly won’t exist by the time they come out the other side. the world is changing rapidly. let them put down their grinding and keep their wits about them
this video has been circulating within Anthropic like DFW's samizdat because there is a moment in which everyone watching it reliably starts crying tears of joy and wonder. i've seen it a dozen times now and it still works every time
Flock takes their privacy very seriously.
But the ethical gray area in surveillance technology works both ways.
Under no circumstances should elected officials or public servants enjoy an expectation of privacy when spending tax dollars to attend a surveillance lobbying event.
thinking about what I miss most from living with Simi before babies, its not traveling, though that was quite nice. It was spending an almost ridiculous amount of time cooking and not cooking in the kitchen together. A visceral, inefficient, luxurious languor.
I'm going to make a concrete prediction here. Open weights AI will prove to be genuinely dangerous and cause a bunch of disasters/be used for bad ends, which will vindicate everyone that warned about this possibility and discredit everyone else
Yesterday, WIRED learned that Madison Square Garden was suing us for our accurate reporting.
We stand by our work. That’s why we’re removing the paywall from two of the MSG stories they don’t want you to read, making them free for everyone.
