We are delighted to welcome Francis Burkitt DL as the High Sheriff of Cambridgeshire for 2026 to 2027.
Francis brings to the role not only deep roots in Cambridgeshire but also many years of dedicated service to the county. From public office and financial stewardship to charitable work, church leadership, and community commitment, he has contributed in thoughtful and lasting ways across many areas of county life.
His experience is wide-ranging, but what stands out most is his clear sense of duty and care for others. Throughout his career and public service, Francis has consistently given his time, judgment, and energy to causes and institutions that strengthen the life of our communities.
During his Shrieval Year, he will focus especially on the justice system, including the police, courts and tribunals, prisons, probation, support for victims, and the rehabilitation of offenders. Above all, he hopes to use this year to recognise and thank those who serve the public good, often without seeking acknowledgement for themselves.
We warmly congratulate Francis and wish him every success in the year ahead.

Yesterday, it was a real privilege to spend time at our Crown Courts and to thank some of the people who so often work quietly behind the scenes.
The justice system does not run without the clerks, ushers, listing and case management officers, and administrative staff who keep everything moving with care, resilience, and professionalism. Their work is rarely public, yet it is absolutely essential.
My sincere thanks to the teams at Cambridge, Huntingdon, and Peterborough Crown Courts for all that they do in the service of others. Their contribution deserves recognition and gratitude.

The Bobby Scheme is a remarkable charity making a real difference across Cambridgeshire and Peterborough.
By helping older, vulnerable and disabled residents, as well as victims of domestic abuse, to feel safer and more secure in their own homes, it offers practical support that is caring, tangible and empowering.
My sincere thanks to everyone involved in this important work of service and community safety. Quiet acts of care such as these make a lasting difference.

I am hugely grateful to everybody who has been so supportive and helped me raise over £1000 of sponsorship towards the £22,000 raised overall by the 'Night in the Nave' initiative. Thank you.
I was very grateful to spend time with Cambridgeshire Constabulary’s communications teams.
A message worth sharing with everyone:
“If you dial 999 by mistake, please do not hang up. Stay on the line and apologise. If you hang up, the operator may need 15–20 minutes to confirm that you are safe — wasting valuable police time.”
Thank you to all who carry out this vital work with such calm professionalism.

It was an honour to attend the presentation of the King’s Award for Voluntary Service to Living Keys in Peterborough on 19 March, a deeply deserved recognition.
Only 231 of these awards are being given this year. Since 2021, Living Keys has supported 600 women, with survivors themselves volunteering to help others rebuild their lives.
Linda is incredible, and I left full of admiration for everyone's courage and fortitude. I also look forward to reading her book, Cheating Death, Living Life.

Just spent the night on the stone floor of Peterborough Cathedral...very cold and very uncomfortable. I am proud to have taken part to support the great work on homelessness undertaken by the Lighthouse Project. Thank you very much to everybody who together helped me raise £750.
I was delighted to visit the @RDA in its Diamond Jubilee year, celebrating 60 years of remarkable work.
It was deeply moving to see the compassion and dedication of the volunteers, whose patience and kindness create such a joyful experience for the children.
My sincere thanks to all involved for the care and commitment they show each week.

I had the privilege of joining magistrates from across Cambridgeshire and hearing more about the vital work they do in the service of justice. It was a thoughtful and moving day, from the urgent need for new magistrates to powerful reflections on domestic abuse, probation, and second chances.
My sincere thanks to Tracy Sortwell for bringing together such an important programme, and to all who serve our county with such dedication.

You cannot fully imagine what happens behind the scenes until you see it firsthand. My sincere thanks to our police teams and the specialist dog handlers for the skill, training, and dedication that ggooes into detecting drugs and preventing harm across Cambridgeshire. It is impressive and deeply reassuring. You can watch the short video below.
Thank you for all you do.

Today, I want to record my heartfelt thanks to my family, and especially to Peter’s family, for the steady kindness and encouragement they have given me throughout my year as High Sheriff.
Rosie Spiegelberg and Bill Spiegelberg have been wonderfully supportive.
And on that note, Happy birthday, Peter Stanley, with my love and thanks.
On March 19th, I will be spending the night on the floor of Peterborough Cathedral to take part in 'A Night in the Nave', a sleep out raising awareness and funds to address homlessness. If you would like to support my fundrasing please visit: https://t.co/YrHwQLzuzX
Thank you.
As my year as High Sheriff of Cambridgeshire draws to a close, I want to record my sincere thanks to Dr Mike Greene DL.
I have especially valued his steady, no-nonsense approach, encouraging others to regain control, build lasting systems, and lead with integrity.
With sincere thanks, Mike, for your time, commitment, and example.

It was a privilege to welcome The Honourable Mr Justice Dexter Dias to Cambridge Crown Court, alongside HHJ Mark Bishop, HHJ Philip Grey and HHJ Andrew Hurst.

Thank you to the Cambridge Chinese Community Centre for a wonderfully welcoming Cambridge Chinese New Year Gala at The Netherhall School, and to our host, Wei Sun, for his thoughtful organisation.
From the opening lion dance to music, dance and acrobatics, it was a joyful celebration that beautifully bridged East and West in Cambridge.
With warm wishes for a happy and prosperous New Year, and my sincere thanks to every performer, volunteer and guest.

I had the privilege of attending the Commemoration Service for Queen Katharine of Aragon at Peterborough Cathedral, alongside Her Excellency Ms Emma Aparici Vázquez de Parga, Spain’s Ambassador to the United Kingdom.
Born a Spanish princess, Katharine became Queen of England and is remembered for her faith, learning, and steadfast dignity.
A real pleasure to visit Princes Group in Wisbech today, celebrating 100 years.
They produce around 450 million cans of food each year, but what struck me most was the pride they take in their place in the community.
I loved the children’s centenary art competition with Wisbech Grammar School, with winning designs featured on commemorative cans.
Thank you to Giuseppe Mastrolia (CCO), and to HRH The Princess Royal for unveiling a plaque to mark this milestone.
