@Metra@metraUPN “Affected Service:
UP-N (INBOUND)
Train 330, scheduled to arrive Chicago at 11:50 a.m., is on the move and operating 18 to 23 minutes behind schedule due to track construction.”
I charged by the hour @metraUPN, so that’ll be $185.
@Seana_S_Scott @SarahBethBlair@CTmagazine@lucepeppiatt My instinct immediately went to the former, but my heart is pushing me toward the latter. I know we wouldn’t say the same about physicians; but we must admit the hard sciences are different than the humanities.
@BrianZahnd I’d simply propose you stop expecting this group called to act any differently, as if its history here hasn’t almost always fallen on the wrong side of economic, racial, gender and sexuality issues. Speaking as a Gen Xer, who cut his teeth with the Religious Right in ascendancy.
@DPCassidyTKC What if modern evangelicals also just shut up with their clinical myopia as if there isn’t already a “church” the world over that is and has been practicing such things for millennia?
@DrJordanBCooper I wish it were that pious. I think the truth is closer to the simple fact that the liturgy of the word and sacrament observed every Lord’s Day ipso facto displaces or crowds out the time required to cultivate a cult of personality.
@Dikaiosune5@DamonLinker Yes – can the universe get together and discuss this openly? Every Latino or Latina I have asked about this is ambivalent at best and downright hostile at times toward the moniker “Latinx.”
@philvischer I grew up SBC, back when it was actually southern and Baptist (tent revivals and all!). In that Convention, I have to wonder if this maps better along Machen’s lines (as someone else alluded to already) than the history of the much wider movement you’ve laid out here.
@drantbradley@iamepiscopalian You know, the more I think about it, the more the opening tweet itself actually displays the kind of myopia we’re seeing in this thread. It’s just a little more informed and further upstream.
@drantbradley I’m guessing you’re not getting many mainliners responding! Of course that says more about your followers…
@iamepiscopalian and there are a whole host of folks who have gotten flack from their compatriots over the years: from Robinson and Spong to Wright and Tutu.
@DBryanRhodes@drantbradley I’ll take this in jest, but the best of the mainline tradition today is that it has no scandal of the mind as exhibited by evangelicals just about everywhere, and so our cone of certainty has at its point far, far fewer things over which to fight.
