Insistence that everything must be enjoyable and feel good all the time. If it isn’t, it must be bad, therefore avoided and removed.

Adults inflict this same damage on themselves and project it onto kids who don’t know any better.

If a coach wants compliant athletes, give more commands and ultimatums. If a coach wants self-disciplined athletes, give more freedom to make choices within a structure.

What difference does it make?

Compliant players require constant external force. Disciplined players don’t.
