@moseskagan After 7 yrs living in LA owning a retail biz I am at wits end; looking to exit the biz and LA/CA. Not being from here, I’m floored by the ineptitude at state (and city/county) level and I don’t have to pull permits etc like yr biz. Cost of running my biz here is crushing.
@MilenaAmit@ChefGruel Small biz like mine can’t compete w/publix flower $ just like @ChefGruel’s restaurants can’t compete w/their wine prices. I pay more wholesale than some store’s retail price. Fortunately our quality is better most of the time too.
@MilenaAmit@ChefGruel Grocery stores buy in huge volume. They also sell 1000 other items @ variable markups. It’s similar to why flowers cost a lot less @ grocery than an independent florist like mine. Labor as a % of sales is a lot higher too @ a restaurant (or florist).
@EstateRanger Mine too but he picks up the checks and sometimes it’s the 1st but usually he meanders in around 4th-6th and then takes another 3-4 biz days to deposit. Comical (he’s older).
@therossg@jenvanlaar And yes they roll heavy by 2 schools each way on sunset. Crazy # of police, ambulances, secret service etc; prob 15 vehicles + motorcycle escort. Peeps trying to get to work, school, 405 etc get pretty wound up during the delay. It’s comical🙄🤦♂️
@therossg@jenvanlaar I own a biz a mile from her LA home in Brentwood. Today her entourage rolled by about 9:00. Cars honking stuck @ intersection. Not 45 min later the motorcade rolled BACK towards her house. That was a 1st; like WTF, she make a Sbux run in Westwood or ??
@benkellyone Not so sure about nursing care. Very regulated industry and are your potential residents self pay or dependent on insurance/Medicare reimburse? Recall covid lockdowns when many facilities sued for negligent care and it’s very hard to find good staff
@JoeCassandra Thanks Joe. This post gave me deja vu big time. I bought my biz (retail florist) 4 years ago and I've struggled w/many of the same challenges. I feel like there should be a small biz therapy group sort of like AA for battle scarred small biz owners!
@girdley 100% agree. Cost inflation on multiple fronts seem never ending (yesterday it was my worker comp policy renewal that about caused me a cardiac event)
