[Christopher Ottery @chriso_eng2got]

Do people have favorite gothic authors \ texts they'd like to share? For me it's Thomas Ligotti. #eng2got

[Christopher Ottery @chriso_eng2got]

He obviously uses his vampire wiles to hypnotise and control her. #eng2got

[Christopher Ottery @chriso_eng2got]

I've seen both 'The Shining' and 'Alien' listed as examples of the gothic style. I wonder, how do we delineate horror from gothic? @eng2got

[Christopher Ottery @chriso_eng2got]

If gothic monsters are symbols of our anxieties or the 'return of the repressed', what do people think Edward and co. represent? #eng2got

[Christopher Ottery @chriso_eng2got]

@TravisAndrews95 True Blood takes itself seriously. #eng2got

[Christopher Ottery @chriso_eng2got]

@louise_morland There is an indirect link with Lovecraft via references to 'the king in yellow'. #eng2got

[Christopher Ottery @chriso_eng2got]

@maamylatrobe why not both!? #eng2got

[Christopher Ottery @chriso_eng2got]

And like so many annoying teenagers and even some adults Bella would rather be dead than condemned to a life of 'normalcy'. #eng2got

[Christopher Ottery @chriso_eng2got]

The vampire Bill arrives just in time to save Sookie from a life of domesticity. #eng2got

[Christopher Ottery @chriso_eng2got]

@gothiclitlily I mean specifically between Sookie-Bill & Bella-Edward. An example being Sookie letting Bill feed on her during sex #eng2got

[Christopher Ottery @chriso_eng2got]

@gothiclitlily it occured to me it could be the same world only true blood is set years after twilight #eng2got

[Christopher Ottery @chriso_eng2got]

@zachgothiclit depends what you mean by 'effective'. for me: buffy = kitsch but at least fun. TB = supernatural days of our lives. #eng2got

[Christopher Ottery @chriso_eng2got]

@alicia_rose1991 @MarigoldClara Speaking of Thriller!

[Christopher Ottery @chriso_eng2got]

@hylatrobe 'Nightmares'. Only for the clown. #eng2got

[Christopher Ottery @chriso_eng2got]

@Sjpetzke I agree. Thank god there are people like Joss Whedon trying to challenge the shitty dominant culture. #eng2got

[Christopher Ottery @chriso_eng2got]

@jacqui_garvey The 'resurgence' of racism, this time against vampires, is an obvious example of the 'past swallowing the present'. #eng2got

[Christopher Ottery @chriso_eng2got]

@jacqui_garvey I suppose as timeless \ immortal beings they can be avatars of the past. #eng2got
