IPOB Remembers the First Bloodshed: We Will Not Forget
On August 30, 2015, the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) recorded what we remember as one of the first major killings of its peaceful members by the Nigerian security forces during the early phase of the movement’s mass street evangelism.
On that day, IPOB members came out peacefully and in their numbers around the Head Bridge area of Onitsha, Anambra State, Biafra Land. Their mission was simple: to distribute flyers to passers-by and residents, evangelize the message of Radio Biafra, and encourage people to join the IPOB movement in the peaceful restoration of Biafra under the leadership of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu.
Instead of allowing the peaceful procession to continue, the Nigerian security forces reportedly opened fire on the unarmed protesters. Members of the combined security forces, including personnel of the Nigerian Air Force and Navy, were involved in the operation.
Three IPOB members were instantly shot dead with live ammunition.
That day remains etched in our memory as a painful reminder of the price paid by many ordinary Biafrans who participated in the struggle.
The killings of IPOB members and other Biafrans have continued in different circumstances over the years. What makes the present situation even more painful is what we see as the growing use of Biafrans against fellow Biafrans, with armed groups and criminal elements operating under different names and labels.
We must continue to remember those who lost their lives while peacefully expressing their political aspirations.
Their names may fade from the headlines, but their sacrifice must never be forgotten.
WE WILL NOT FORGET.

Three Ambazonia Supporters Sentenced in U.S. for Funding Separatist Attacks
Three men of Cameroonian origin have been sentenced in the United States for their roles in a conspiracy to provide money and equipment to separatist fighters in Cameroon for the construction and use of improvised explosive devices, or IEDs.
U.S. prosecutors said court documents and trial evidence showed that Langmi sent an audio message to separatist fighters asking them to kidnap a traditional leader in Cameroon.
The traditional leader was later taken from his vehicle by separatist fighters following a confrontation with Cameroonian forces. Catholic Cardinal Christian Tumi, who was traveling with the traditional leader, was also abducted.
The Justice Department said Chenyi subsequently provided questions that were to be used during the interrogation of the traditional leader and Cardinal Tumi. He also approved the transfer of funds to separatist fighters through peer-to-peer transactions to support the kidnapping.
The U.S. government also said Langmi attempted to coordinate attacks around the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations, which was hosted by Cameroon.
He also allegedly attempted to coordinate attacks in several towns across Cameroon’s Northwest region in the spring of 2022.
The case was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorneys Sean T. Foley and Joseph M. Marquez for the Western District of Missouri, with assistance from the U.S. Justice Department’s National Security Division.
The FBI’s Kansas City Field Office investigated the case.
The sentences represent one of the latest U.S. prosecutions involving alleged financial and logistical support provided from the United States to armed separatist activities in Cameroon’s restive Northwest and Southwest regions.

GOODNIGHT, DOLLY: THANK YOU FOR KEEPING THE HUMAN MIND INSPIRED
There is something profoundly reflective about listening to Dolly Parton’s “The Mystery of the Mystery” at a moment like this.
In that song, Dolly contemplated some of the oldest questions of human existence: Where did we come from? What is the meaning of this extraordinary thing called life? And what happens when we die?
She understood that despite everything the human mind has discovered, there remains a mystery beyond our knowing.
Today, I think about Dolly standing at the very threshold she once wondered about.
Perhaps this is one of the deepest lessons of human consciousness: we spend our lives seeking answers, yet eventually every one of us must encounter the great mystery for ourselves.
And what a life she lived before that crossing.
As I pause to honour Dolly Parton - a woman whose voice travelled far beyond the mountains of Tennessee and touched the human spirit across generations.
Dolly understood something profound about life. She understood that people need something to hold onto when life becomes difficult. Sometimes it is faith. Sometimes it's love. Sometimes hope, and sometimes, it is a song.
In “Coat of Many Colors,” she reminded us that our worth is not determined by what the world thinks we possess. A coat made from scraps could still be priceless because of the love with which it was made.
As an Igbo woman, I recognise something of my people's story there - a people who emerged from war devastated, yet gathered what remained and rebuilt. We understand something about turning fragments into something whole again.
In “The Seeker,” I hear the consciousness of the human being who continues searching for God, truth, meaning and freedom.
But today, “Light of a Clear Blue Morning” speaks most deeply to me.
Dolly called it her song of deliverance and freedom. And although she did not write it about the Igbo, human struggle sometimes needs no translation.
We have known war, loss, displacement and rebuilding. Yet through it all, something has survived:
the expectation of morning.
Perhaps that is consciousness, not denying the darkness, but refusing to believe that darkness is all that exists.
And then there was “9 to 5.”
That song got me thinking about the consciousness of work about the millions of ordinary people who wake each morning, give their time, energy, intelligence and sometimes their health to their jobs, while still struggling to be properly valued.
Dolly made the everyday working life worthy of a song. Beneath its humour and infectious rhythm was a serious question about dignity, fairness, power and what it means to spend so much of our human lives working.
Perhaps 9 to 5 still asks us something today:
Are we simply working to make a living, or are the places in which we work also allowing us to live?
Dolly also gave millions of children books through her Imagination Library. A woman whose words travelled around the world made sure that children could discover words of their own.
And so my prayer today is simple
Dear God,
Thank You for the life and gift of Dolly Parton. And for every heart she comforted, every mind she inspired and every child whose imagination she helped awaken.
May those walking through darkness remember through her songs that morning still exists. May those carrying broken pieces remember that fragments can become a beautiful coat of many colours.
And may we never stop seeking truth, meaning, love and light.
Dolly, your voice may be quiet, but what you awakened in the human mind remains..
Thank you for keeping humanity inspired.

Do you ever stop to ask why some Nigerian soldiers and police officers spend hours mounting roadblocks, stopping motorists and demanding money?
One major reason is the poor welfare of many security personnel — inadequate remuneration, poor working conditions, and delays in salaries or allowances. When those entrusted with protecting society are neglected for too long, some become vulnerable to corruption.
This never excuses extortion, kidnapping or any crime. Nothing justifies abusing the people one is supposed to protect.
But if we truly want security in our communities, we must support those who have taken on the responsibility of protecting us.
The Eastern Security Network (ESN) is our shield against Fulani terrorists. Continued funding helps them focus 100% on their duty.
