Healthcare Antitrust Attorney. Opinions are my own and do not constitute legal advice, nor do I speak for or on behalf of my employer, Vanderbilt Medical Center
The problem is not people being uneducated.
The problem is that people are educated just enough to believe what they have been taught, and not educated enough to question anything from what they have been taught.
—Professor Richard Feynman
I'm just not sure I get the worship of the college degree. Have you never watched an auto mechanic, an LPN, a plumber, or a lawn care person do their job well. I have to say, way more impressive than my ability to closely read a statute or snipe out a tweet.
@Matt_R_Fisher Self-insured employers and their TPAs continue to narrowly interpret the law and insist that only the #Covid_19 test, not the treatment, is free. Imagine the surprise of #patients who went to the ED and find out that they still owe their copay, coinsurance and deductible.
And in another milestone, COVID-19 became the 4th leading cause of death in the US sometime this morning, passing up chronic lower respiratory diseases (160394 to 160201) (2017 data for causes of death). We will pass accidents in a week or so. In about 5 months.
I disagreed with another physician about a patient. They were ultimately right. I let them know they were right and thanked them.
Doubling down when youre wrong is one of the things wrong with medicine. It limits your knowledge growth and will only hurt you and your patients.

OSHA has issued new guidance on returning to work which is intended to supplement OSHA’s previously developed Guidance on Preparing Workplaces for COVID-19 and the White House Guidelines for Opening up America Again. https://t.co/1hluxfYzwx

Many hospital pharmacies have secure collection bins where anyone can anonymously drop off any unused or expired medicines, OTC or prescription. The drugs are destroyed properly. No questions asked.
Now more than ever, it’s important to gather any unused or expired prescription medications and store them securely until it’s time for the next National Prescription Drug Take Back Day.
@RyManMD #Lawyer I work with and advise medical professionals daily. I have actually said to a physician, “I’ll stop practicing medicine, if you stop practicing law.” I have great respect for #physicians and I work hard to keep them out of trouble.
@Matt_R_Fisher Lawyer answer: it depends. Infection control/prevention ✅ Separate site for COVID ED ✅ PPE ✅ Distancing ✅ Guarantee of safety🔴 Too many people put off care for treatable conditions. There’s anecdotal evidence of avoidable deaths. Providers are trying to change the trend.
As Frank Rummo died of COVID-19, his family gathered to tell him they loved him — through an iPad and the touch of his nurse, Maddie Hayes. https://t.co/M9av2OimnP
@Matt_R_Fisher Until the tornado ripped through Nashville last month, that was not part of our risk analysis. However, it definitely is now. Many warehouses for many businesses were destroyed.
@SIRIUSXM Your webpage and help line mislead and frustrate consumers. Webpage gives a link to “chat to cancel” but the chat makes you call a number. See image. That phone line also repeatedly plays messages that say you can cancel online. But only a live person can help.
@ShimCode@Matt_R_Fisher Voice conversation only via telephone is NOT #telehealth which requires both visual and audio evaluation by the clinician via Zoom, Skype, FaceTime, etc. @CMSGov treats phone conversations as a “check in” and most insurers won’t cover those.
