Volunteered for a position in a student org to get in touch with my creativity again. Procrastinated doing my first task because it wasn't academic enough. Thought about trying to find a way out of it. Got braindead from studying. Did the creative task. Now I'm recharged. Hm!
Sharing our research with our Kansas legislators today was so surreal! Not to mention...all student doctors were women 😎💅 Especially grateful to take on this journey with my co-author @Val_Montalvo09
My latest for @TeenVogue explores the horrific story of popular skincare ingredient Retin-A.
Before Retin-A was approved by the FDA in 1971, it was tested on hundreds of incarcerated Black people in Philadelphia without their informed consent. The survivors still bear the scars
An important note is that I don't know my peer's reason or any healthcare workers' reasons. I'm not insinuating that it has anything to do with their respective institution or even their role; there is no basis for causative relationship. The correlation is enough for infuriation
Seeing the suicide stats for health care workers for so many years does not make it even 0.000001% easier to accept its reality. Just over 1.5 years into SCHOOL (NOT EVEN MY CAREER) and I've lost a peer. I'm trying to hold onto my sadness but I am so angry at this system.
They are your neighbors—your nanny, the worker who harvested the strawberries on your table, the roofer who repaired your home, the cleaner who ensured your streets were clean after the snowstorm.
They’ve paid taxes. They’re over 65. And there will be about 1 million of them by 2030.
Yet, they can’t access most health care services—because they are undocumented.

People in state prisons are nearly 3x more likely to suffer from HIV or AIDS than the overall US population.
It’s time for the carceral system to get serious about public health interventions for this vulnerable population.

Tonight one of my male professors praised me for being such an independent woman. Although likely a passing compliment, it's the most seen I have felt in my scientific and medical career thus far. Overcoming professional gendered norms is an ongoing feat that I often forget about
Hi Americans! If you are doing Thanksgiving, please read my new, and very short book, Consider the Turkey. Here the spoiler, though: I hope it will persuade you to ditch the animal centrepiece and keep all the trimmings, which for many people are the best parts of the meal anyway.
During my years at Princeton, I would always share Thanksgiving with a group of friends who do not eat meat. Each of us contributed something to the feast. Karen Bennett, a philosophy professor at Rutgers, would bring a substitute for turkey made from seitan, and the recipe is included in Consider the Turkey.
Yesterday, the @WSJ published an extract from the book including an abbreviated version of the recipe. Here’s the article (but it’s behind a paywall, and you would do better to buy the book and get the full recipe, plus the rest of the book, than to contribute to the Murdoch empire’s profits):

They want to convince you that hopping a turnstile is violent and lawless, but firing bullets into bodies and spilling blood in our communities is not.
This is almost beyond imagination. During my oncology fellowship, ppl w/ newly diagnosed metastatic #melanoma lived ~ 6m on avg. Now we have many ppl alive AND cancer-free a decade later. We aren’t done yet, but #ScienceWillWin. Bet. 💪🏆

Undocumented immigrants pay $32 BILLION into Social Security and Medicare every single year — even though they aren’t eligible to receive those benefits.
Don’t listen to Republican lies. Immigrants are hugely beneficial to our economy and our country.
Haitians in Springfield, Ohio, are keeping their children home and reporting damage to their property as anti-immigrant conspiracy theories spread, fanned by statements by Trump and Vance https://t.co/aYaEK06uhb
Undocumented immigrants paid $96.7B in taxes in 2022.
T-Mobile, Office Depot and 21 other major profitable corporations paid $0 in taxes from 2018-2022 while getting billions in taxpayer subsidies.
Just in case you thought it was immigrants who weren't paying their fair share.
