Every time I reach out to someone for a photo for a @Wikipedia @WikiWomenInRed article, I type up the same instructions of how to get a photo on @WikiCommons — so I finally got smart and made a cheatsheet to share. (Text version in thread) 1/

@DrIbram I was looking at some old marriage license records from Alabama and noticed that the clerk or whoever had emphatically scribbled out the pre-printed “Miss” and “Mr” before the name field on the form if the couple was Black.

@JedBridges @schutzsmith I know lots of folks using InDesign? Their Venn diagram just doesn’t overlap with Twitter as much (though I do follow a few ID folks here). It’s not flashy/trendy but damn can I make the exact consistent & nuanced paragraph/character/object styles I need for longer documents 🤷🏻‍♀️

@iSmashFizzle Still grateful to the tailor there who clocked that I was 1. poor and 2. knew my way around a needle. She showed me exactly how to alter the weirdly poofy skirt of a bridesmaid dress myself and quietly sent me on my way, no charge.

Sometimes volunteering for WordPress feels like I am giving my labor so capitalism/enterprise can succeed. Confusing overlap of volunteers and paid folks
