@skumWgmi If your parents are Boomers, that likely puts you somewhere between 40 and 60. If you have a college degree, you’re in that age range, and you’re only making $71K a year, my guess is your Boomer parents aren’t the problem.

My parents are Boomers, and every time I see one of these posts I wonder what imaginary version of the 70s and 80s people are talking about.

My mother worked 13 hour days. My father worked 16 hour days and sometimes stayed at work for days at a time. He’d sleep on a wooden bench in the break room and pick up somebody else’s shift if they called in.

They shared ONE car: a manual Ford Escort with no A/C, crank windows and an AM radio. We didn’t run the A/C all summer. We put fans in the windows. We had one TV and one telephone. I went to the movies twice as a kid: Star Wars and E.T.

We didn’t eat out. We ate the same rotation of meals every single week and leftovers on Saturday. We grew vegetables in a garden and my mother canned food for winter. She sewed most of my clothes in the 70s, sewed her own wedding dress, cut my father’s hair and never had a standing appointment at a salon. We wore hand me downs because you used things until they were worn out, not until you were bored with them.

So spare me the lecture about how Boomers simply “lived in a version of America where working was enough.” A whole lot of them worked their asses off AND lived with a fraction of what people now consider basic necessities.

And apparently this generation of ordinary working people, with no internet, no social media, no 24 hour access to world events and far less ability to organize nationally, was somehow personally responsible for anticipating and preventing every economic, political and corporate decision that would happen over the next 50 years.

Meanwhile, we currently have instant access to virtually every piece of information in human history. We watch corruption, corporate greed and government dysfunction exposed in real time every damn day. How’s fixing all of it going?

There are absolutely things that are harder and more expensive for younger generations today, particularly housing, healthcare and higher education. But acknowledging that doesn’t require rewriting history and pretending our parents were all strolling out of college at 22, buying a house with pocket change and spending the next 40 years on easy street.

And there’s another uncomfortable part nobody wants to discuss: expectations changed too. My parents weren’t trying to keep up with the Joneses because they couldn’t afford to. There wasn’t a $60,000 vehicle in the driveway, a giant house full of electronics, multiple TVs, multiple phones, constant restaurant meals, salon appointments and yearly vacations. They lived within what they had, even when what they had wasn’t much.

So no, my parents didn’t “outwork” you.

But you sure as hell don’t get to erase how hard they worked just because it makes your post hit harder.

And if Boomers single handedly created the world you inherited, I have some unfortunate news: you’re the adults now. What are you doing to make sure the next generation doesn’t say exactly the same thing about you?

Oregon in the current year: Tren de Aragua members abduct woman and torture her with a power drill to steal her debit card info, turn out to be living in a drug den that is listed as a “drug rehab facility” receiving $2.3 million/year in Oregon Medicaid funds. Owners have likely stolen more than $60 million by laundering it through Rwanda. The only local journalist covering the story says state officials are told directly about this and simply don’t care.

Unreal. Sixth grade students at a Kansas public school were told they could not name Charlie Kirk as a role model for an assignment.

The assignment was called “Find Your Voice,” in which the students were asked to identify their role models.

“When a student identified Charlie Kirk as a role model, [the guidance counselor] got very uncomfortable and refused to allow this name to be written on the board, yelling that he was ‘not a hero,’ and that he was not a role model."

Another kid said President Trump, and this was also denied.
Yet another student said Jesus, and once again this was denied.

A lawsuit has been filed which claims other "controversial" role models were allowed, just not conservative or Christian ones.

Get your kids out of public school, folks.
