Back in September, Bellamy Elementary was named a National Blue Ribbon School by the Department of Education, an honor just eight schools in the state received for their academic excellence.
Principal Burt Kilpatrick and Assistant Principal Jennifer Rosser lead a team of remarkably experienced teachers.
Both the principal and assistant principal, along with Superintendent Dr. Charles Foust, accepted the award at the 2023 National Blue Ribbon Schools Recognition Ceremony on Nov. 17 in Washington, DC.
At Bellamy, Mr. Kilpatrick sets the expectation that they exceed growth every year, and it’s become a badge of pride among teachers to make it happen.
They extend those high expectations to their students, who rise to meet them.
Mr. Kilpatrick said: “It’s a mentality of trying to improve ourselves so that we can improve the students every year.”
Congratulations to Mr. Kilpatrick, Ms. Rosser, and the entire Bellamy team for this well-deserved honor, and thank you for serving our students with such diligence and excellence.
Nothing like a little informational text "breakout room" to keep us engaged during these last few days before testing and then heading off to middle school!
When you challenge your students to a vocabulary usage competition and their words start miraculously appearing in their writing- this is one time I don't mind being the "loser!" 😉
We have so many terrific teachers and TAs at Bellamy. We think they all deserve to be teacher and TA of the year. These two spectacular educators were voted as "The best of the best" by their peers. Congratulations! @NewHanoverCoSch@chawkfan91@MrsRossersClass
Today, student authors shared their essays. We also had some magical (for me) writing moments where students said, "Look, I used a simile," and "What inference can you make from my introduction?" If every day could be like today...
Help support me and Bellamy Elementary PTA! During our fundraiser, I'll be paying it forward by giving back to others. Thank you for your support! https://t.co/8gAZkfMLTh #raisecraze
This girl has it figured out! She writes the stories and then recruits her friends to type them up! 🤣 Might be my favorite dismissal time activity ever! #sheloveswriting
First field trip of the year in the books. Such a great experience at Cameron Art Museum. These kiddos left inspired to create something that they can share with the world!
Today was FUN! We worked on writing an informative paragraph about a fireboat used to help put out fires on 9-11 and the kids got to pretend to be news reporters sharing the story. I'm certain I will see 1 or 2 of them reporting the news on TV one day- they were good!
