@chris_babb@billytinkle Yeah, agreed. It’s a weird one not many people know about since the officials always say “the ball will be placed at the 40 yard line” instead of saying what the actual penalty is. This same thing actually happened though a few mins later in the Panthers game with the same result
@chris_babb@billytinkle Correct. My comment didn’t come off well. What I meant to say was that the Payne penalty was the reason they kicked from the 50 not that it moved the ball after the kick from the 40 to the 25. The 25 yard penalty for kick out of bounds is why WAS starts at the 25.
@mike_mikeu323 So yes, normally it would be at the 40 as that’s a 25 yard penalty from the 35 yard line. However, the kick took place from the 50 due to the earlier penalty so a kick off out of bounds from there would place the ball at the 25 yard line.
@Scavvvv …then it would be a TD and nothing more…The 15 yard penalty from Payne moved the ball from the 35 to the 50. The second penalty, ball kicked out of bounds, carries a 25 yard penalty from the spot of the kickoff, placing the ball at the 25.
I guess no one but me watched @PatMcAfeeShow talk about this recently. A kick out of bounds does not automatically mean the 40 yard line. It is a 25 yard penalty from the spot of the kick:

@billytinkle It has nothing to do with the Payne penalty. A kick out of bounds is a 25 yard pentaly from the kicking spot: https://t.co/WY5cyAhFxR top of page 25
