A girl put on an SSRI at eight has no before.
She will move through her first crush, her first heartbreak, her first kiss, all of it dialed down a few notches, and she will never think to ask what's missing.
Around one in ten girls as of 2019 were taking antidepressants, twice as the percentage of
Polypharmacy is now “the standard of care” in child psychiatry:
1. Put a kid on a stimulant to comply with authoritarian schooling.
2. Put them on an antipsychotic to stabilize that irritability caused by the stimulant.
3. Put them on clonidine so they can fall asleep.
4. Put them on an antidepressant since the other medication is leaving them feeling flat and unmotivated.
5. Put them on metformin to manage prediabetic insulin levels caused by the antipsychotic.
The good news is that the destruction of their bodies and identity formation doesn’t matter.
What matters is now they’re easier for the school or the stressed parent to manage.
I am torn because I really just wish we were all a little kinder and a little more gentle with each other BUT I also hate everybody and everybody annoys me
I lost my Dad on 9/11. I don’t get a lot of reach on here. But I just wanted to share a picture. He was 39. I thought he was old. I’m now in my mid 30s and I still feel like a kid.
He was a great trader. He loved markets. He loved to find a stock no one was talking about.
The first trade I ever placed was on his work computer, where he let me click the button to buy AMAT. I loved going to the office with him. It was electric.
He was the best dad. We spent hours out in the street after dinner where he’d throw “pop flys” for me to catch. Eye on the ball.
He loved watching Sponge Bob and eating cereal, wrestling with us in the living room. He just loved being around his kids so much, and we knew it. I’m so grateful I got a dad like that.
Love you, Pops.
Bad news. After 36 years, the garage fridge finally died. Been through a lot together. Outlasted 3 trucks, and 2 wives. Went out quiet, like a cowboy. Must’ve kept 10,000+ beers ice cold. Thinking about giving it a proper funeral, lmk if anyone would attend.
We aren’t rich, but we’ve grown accustomed to keeping a block of Parmesan cheese in the fridge to grate onto our meals, so I kind of understand what it feels like to be rich if that makes sense.
It’s good for everyone that women’s rights proponents in the past changed laws such that women could own property, have their own bank accts, etc. That is what “feminism” means to me. The legal playing field was made even.
All the rest of this stuff where men are “bad,” and marriage and kids is some kind of prison, and subscribing to crazy ideas is not any type of feminism to me. It’s rather resentment, insecurity, and mental instability.
There’s no “either you become a devoted housewife and mother and eviscerate your personality and personal hopes and dreams” or “be single your whole life and never have kids and be a ‘boss girl’ and hammer your career.” Those are just silly reductions to some cartoon characters.
Of course you can marry and have children and hold very satisfying jobs and have a husband whom you love and support, as he loves and supports you. You can have children while pursuing things that professionally interest you. These things aren’t “sacrificing your freedom.” That’s silly. They are elements of life that enrich you. They are avenues of experience that bring you closer to a really full picture of who you are, for both the man and the woman.
Don’t believe people saying it’s got to be one way or the other. It’s just nonsense.
Toxic masculinity isn’t our biggest societal problem.
Liberal women are out here trying to get special treatment for child killers who birthed and slaughtered their own victims.
People who are mentally unwell should still go to prison for committing crimes they did while mentally unwell.
I don’t know why this is complicated or why people think otherwise.
I don't care about Lindsay Clancy's mental health.
Do you bitches think Jeffrey Dahmer didn't also have poor mental health? Ted Bundy? Every school shooter????
Sure wish Lindsay Clancy would have fought half as hard to not strangle her children to death as she is fighting to protect her own ass from life in prison
What the fuck is wrong with the world. That woman stabbed two people and killed one and the world is outraged the police shot her dead?
The world is fucked.
The idea that modern society doesn't talk about 'mental health' enough is hilarious.
People are obsessed with themselves and their own feelings to the point of familial disintegration and cultural decline.
Millions drug themselves to numb and alter normal emotions.
If we allow women to blame hormones for child murder, when do we as a society make the leap to allowing men to blame hormones for rape?
It’s the same argument: “I lost control.”
