@bankofcanada Whether Warsh sustains it is the open question. But the direction is clear enough to start rethinking how much weight forward guidance deserves at all.
Markets spent the week on the rate hold. The more interesting move was the one Warsh didn't make — he left his own dot blank. A signal about where the @federalreserve is headed, hiding in an omission.
Warsh held rates last week, as expected. The more consequential signal was what he chose to withold — his dot.
With less guidance, markets will need to rely on their own jdugement. More near-term volatitlity, but cleaner signals, and a higher premium on independent thinking.
@bankofcanada What is means in practice: fewer cues to position around, and more uncertainty between meetings. Uncomfortable in the moment, but it puts the weight back on judgement and process, which is where I'd argue it belongs.
