The most protected people on earth are those who never have to consider what is done in their name.
Consider the geography of it.
If you live in a country that has been sanctioned, bombed, covertly destabilized, or regime-changed by America, you cannot avoid thinking about American power.
It is a physical fact of your life.
It shapes your economy, your politics, your infrastructure, your future.
If you live in America, you can go your entire life without seriously thinking about what your government does in the world.
You can watch the Super Bowl, pay your mortgage, argue about domestic politics, and never spend a single afternoon genuinely confronting the machine that operates in your name.
This is the ultimate imperial privilege.
Not wealth. Not military protection. Not a powerful passport.
The privilege of not having to know.
The privilege of the person in the house that is never bombed, reading about houses being bombed, and thinking: that is very unfortunate. I wonder what provoked it.
The way it worked was the CIA would give money to an organization that gave grants to artists and writers and then that organization would give grants to artists and writers in line with the CIA's mission. The artists and writers weren't aware they were working for the CIA
